PagerDuty is seeking a Director of Security to join our team. As the Director of Security, you will be responsible for leading and enhancing the security posture of our technology and products. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), you will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and IT teams to embed security at every stage of the product development lifecycle. Your leadership will ensure that security remains a core component of our products, supporting our mission to earn and maintain customer trust.

This role will provide technical leadership to ensure our product security is effective, efficient, and aligned with our business objectives. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and experience in implementing product security solutions and automation to address security-related issues while effectively communicating and managing security risks across leadership teams.

This role is expected to come into our Toronto office one day per month, so you can thrive in your new role and fully embrace being a Dutonian!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define, develop, and execute a forward-looking product security strategy aligned with business goals and emerging threats.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent in security, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture where team members are empowered to excel and grow.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design, implement, and operate secure systems that protect PagerDuty’s cloud environment and ensure the safety of customer data.
  • Build a developer-centric security program, embedding security into engineering artifacts, processes, and tooling for seamless integration.
  • Drive complex, cross-functional security initiatives to systematically eliminate common risks and vulnerabilities, ensuring security is “engineered-in” at every stage.
  • Develop and maintain technical solutions to proactively address security threats, risks, and vulnerabilities.
  • Partner with tech leads and executive leadership to review technical designs and implement architectural improvements, balancing security, reliability, and performance.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of security incidents, from investigation to resolution, responding effectively to any security breaches or related events.
  • Develop and track metrics and KPIs to measure product security effectiveness, continuously improving security posture and aligning with organizational goals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have a proven track record of building and scaling security organizations as a Director or higher in high-growth, public SaaS companies, where you fostered a strong security culture and led teams through rapid change.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills that inspire collaboration and drive alignment across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments, balancing strategic vision with tactical execution to respond to evolving security needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong hands-on experience in deploying secure coding practices, automation, threat modeling and application security solutions.
  • Strong experience in securing products in highly dynamic cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google).
  • Strong understanding of modern application architectures, including microservices, containerization, and cloud-native applications.
  • Successful in partnering closely with Product and Engineering teams to drive security programs.
  • Experience collaborating closely with Compliance and Legal teams to lead and support security-related audits, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and fostering a unified approach to risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks, standards, and best practices, including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53.

The base salary range for this position is 203,000 - 303,000 CAD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits.

Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience.
