Reports to the Senior Director, Transportation Rail.
What you will do:
- Develop and implement Nutrien’s commercial rail freight strategy, supporting annual spend in excess of $700 million USD.
- Ensure our commercial rail agreements properly support Nutrien’s operational needs and overall business objectives while maintaining our ongoing competitive cost to serve position across our Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potassium business portfolios.
- Identify and pursue cost reduction or cost avoidance opportunities that support the safe and reliable delivery of Nutrien’s products by rail across North America.
- Gather and analyze market intelligence to support business decisions related to Nutrien’s comprehensive Training, Development & Learning portfolio.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with all rail carriers, ensuring strategic alignment and effective communications in support of our broader operational and commercial needs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align on contract strategies, and to identify opportunities for efficiency, growth and cost savings.
- Establish and monitor key performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of the commercial strategies and initiatives put in place.
- Lead and mentor a team of 5 commercial professionals, fostering a culture of decision quality, analysis and continuous improvement.

What you will bring:
- Minimum 10 years in business, logistics, commercial rail, procurement or related field, with at least 5 years of leadership experience in rail freight or transportation management.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent is required.
- Strong understanding of North America’s rail network with in-depth knowledge of Class 1 carriers.
- Proven ability to negotiate large, complex contracts/agreements and make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Proven track record of delivering successful outcomes in large, complex negotiations.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization.
- Self-starter able to work independently and manage deadlines under pressure.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office are required; experience working with SAP, MSS & HANA would be an asset.
