What you’ll be doing

The role is a seasoned professional responsible for leading and directing large, complex, mission critical business projects within the Chief Security Office, in partnership with technology teams. The role recommends policy and procedure related modifications to manage day-to-day activities of highly complex projects, as per project performance standards. The role applies leadership skills and security business expertise to ensure all project managers and projects follow Technology’s project performance standards, project delivery frameworks and business priorities. The role provides leadership to a team in establishing operational objectives and work plans, performing high tactical business planning and overseeing the delivery of multiple projects, with overall accountability for all aspects of project outcomes. As the Director, IT Project Management, you‘ll be joining CIBC’s Shared Services team to manage delivery of a portfolio of innovative projects. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of 5 to 10 Project Managers and Project Coordinators.

How you’ll succeed

  • Strategic development & execution: Manage the day-to-day project or Program activities of highly complicated project(s), in an inter-related strategic program following Technology’s project performance standards. Perform high tactical business planning and return on investment outcomes. Initiate, plan, execute, control and close out the program or project with an emphasis on project inter-dependency management. Establish department policies and procedures. Must ensure that all necessary risk assessments and risk assessment processes are carried out at the appropriate time. Must ensure projects for which they are responsible meet the requirements of CIBC’s standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Financial Management: Maintain the currency of the project financials and the CSO portfolio to ensure strategic alignment of investments and the enterprise strategy. This includes estimating, scenario analysis, recasting, rolling forecasting and reporting.
  • Governance: Work in accordance with the CIBC PMO federated model to ensure the appropriate level of governance across the portfolio and aligned with the goals, priorities and oversight. This includes proactively ensuring that the delivery is executed in alignment to required practices to comply with corporate wide policies, use of the appropriate methodology, appropriate use of the deviation process, monitoring of CIRA risk and visibility.
  • Collaboration: Work jointly with partners to make informed decisions about the progress, development of programs, products, and services. Coach and mentor teams working towards a common goal. Negotiate deliverables and milestones whenever necessary.
  • Relationship management: Maintain relationships with business management to identify business needs and align application services to support those needs. Establish and maintain stakeholder, client and senior management relationships. Mentor sponsors and senior management.
  • Strong leadership: Be a daring and authentic leader who is passionate about developing and coaching to bring out the best in people. Direct, motivate, develop and manage performance of the management team and key staff.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 8-10 years of experience in: end-to-end project delivery and project management as a Director, or in a similar role. You deliver results in a matrix environment where you may not have direct influence on project resources. You must have previous experience establishing and maintaining stakeholder and sponsor relationships and you have experience in integration projects and keen interest in architecture and high-level design.
