Title: Director, Organizational Development and Strategic Workforce Planning

Department: People

Reporting to: Chief People Officer

Salary: $165K - $180K CAD

Location: Remote - Canada (Candidates based in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia or willing to relocate)

About the Opportunity:

WES is looking for a Director, Organizational Development and Strategic Workforce Planning who has a proven, progressive track record leading positive business outcomes through workforce and organization development, and change management knowledge, expertise and implementation. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this leader will partner with business leaders to identify comprehensive workforce strategies and work with the People team to implement these strategies. This critical role will oversee a small team focused on the future orientation of WES.

What you'll do:

  • Design and implement a scalable, enterprise-wide organizational design and strategic workforce planning strategy that supports organizational objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing insights and recommendations on workforce analytics, talent gaps, and organizational design best practices.
  • Ensure alignment of workforce or organizational development initiatives with the overall organization and people strategies and goals.
  • Develop, standardize, and continuously improve processes and tools for workforce planning and organizational design.
  • Partner with business leaders to help them define their long-term workforce plans and strategies, designing pathways and processes to meet these.
  • Partner with stakeholders to integrate workforce plans into budgeting and strategic planning processes.
  • Create frameworks to analyze and model workforce scenarios, organization structures, and succession planning.
  • Build tools to enable leaders and HR teams to proactively address talent needs and workforce gaps.
  • Lead the development and deployment of workforce planning technology and ensure seamless system integration.
  • Oversee the development of the people data analytics strategy and planning.
  • Direct the People Analyst in the approach to collect, analyze, and interpret workforce and organizational data to inform strategic decisions or measure outcomes of current initiatives.
  • Partner with the People Analyst and wider People team to generate actionable insights from workforce data, trends, and benchmarks.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across organizational systems and reporting.
  • Develop frameworks for a robust succession planning process especially for executive, senior and critical roles across WES.
  • Work with divisional and department leaders to set, monitor and evaluate relevant goals and metrics tied to enterprise level strategies and objectives that will drive high performance, excellence and support the organization in realizing its mission, vision and values.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and gap analyses, overseeing the collection and analysis of complex data along with statistical analyses to determine programming needs.
  • Serve as a leader within the people function, driving strategy and future people initiatives.
  • Create and define measurable outcomes within Organizational and Workforce Development programs and activities.
  • Leverage external best practices, and evolving market trends that are the best fit for WES.

Your Experience:

Required:

  • Significant experience in leading, designing and supporting Workforce, Organizational or Functional Development programs, with at least 5 years' experience in senior leadership roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development/organizational psychology/workforce development. Related experience considered in lieu of education.
  • Proven experience in organizational design, workforce planning, or related fields, with experience in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in workforce analytics, organizational modeling, and change management.
  • Strong experience in implementing HR technologies and workforce planning tools.
  • Experience in utilizing data to drive decisions and inform programming.
  • Superior presentation skills; creating PPT slides and presenting to audiences.
  • Excellent consulting skills with a client-focused mindset; building valuable relationships and collaboration.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to work with objectivity in a sometimes ambiguous, high change environment.
  • Demonstrate deep business acumen and gain/leverage insights of WES and its market.
  • Recognized as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
  • Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Multi-sector experience and experience working with a globally diverse workforce.
  • Creative problem solver with high intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong external insights and networks to leverage external best practices, evolving market trends that are the best fit for WES.

Desired:

  • Certified Change Management Practitioner (Prosci) or Certified Change Management Professional (ACMP) preferred.
  • Master's degree in organizational development/organizational psychology/workforce development.
  • Experience of presenting to Executive and Board Committees.
