Job description

The Director of Sales and Marketing reports to the General Manager and is responsible for leading the catering sales team in developing organic and inorganic growth within various market segments. You will develop sales focuses and obtainable targets for yourself and your team of Catering Managers that meet/exceed revenue goals. You will also research and engage new opportunities and increase event capture ratios through sales and engagement strategies. Additionally, the role includes overseeing marketing initiatives including social media marketing, print advertising, website updates and maintenance, and other promotional opportunities. Experience within hospitality is highly advantageous to be able to lead an experienced team. Sales focus is 80%, Marketing 20%.

Compensation Package

Based on experience, starting at $75,000-$85,000

Overview of Responsibilities:

  1. Achieves all catering and event sales goals as they relate to team productivity, as agreed for the year and to meet budget.
  2. Manages a team of Catering Managers and works collaboratively with them in setting and achieving individual and departmental goals.
  3. Motivates the catering sales team to reach their goals, providing coaching and resources to aid them, meeting weekly with each Catering Manager to review their prospects and ensure they are quoting correctly and effectively.
  4. Proactively solicits new business and manages relationships with existing clients to meet/exceed revenue goals and expand the client base through various mediums.
  5. Maintains a flexible approach to client needs and budget while understanding operational requirements and profitability objectives.
  6. Works closely with the Executive Chef and Operations Manager to ensure events are sold, planned and executed to Truffles’ standards.
  7. Conducts meetings with clients and site tours with third-party suppliers at various sites across the Greater Victoria and Cowichan Valley regions.
  8. Organizes and participates in networking and trade show events, and other business to business opportunities.
  9. Attends Truffles catered events, when necessary, to provide support to clients and operations.
  10. Ensures positive supplier and venue partner relationships are developed and fostered.
  11. Works closely with Destination Greater Victoria on FAMs and other events where Truffles can showcase our offering.
  12. Follows all sales and planning procedures to ensure the operations and culinary teams are set up for success.
  13. Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new operational processes, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining strong community and business relations.
  14. Such other duties as are customarily performed by one holding the position of a Director of Sales and Marketing in businesses that are similar to Truffles Catering.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  1. 5 or more years of experience in sales, either groups sales, event sales, or catering sales.
  2. 1-3 years of event planning as a Planner, Catering Manager, or Conference Service Manager.
  3. 2-3 years of experience as a Marketing Coordinator or Manager, or other marketing role including experience with social media marketing.
  4. Experience in food and beverage operations required.
  5. Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation is an asset.
  6. Post-secondary degree or diploma is an asset.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Wordpress, and other website applications.
  8. Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
  10. Experience with catering software ‘Caterease’ an asset.
  11. A warm, confident and customer focused personality.
  12. Strong creativity and excellent attention to detail.
  13. Highly motivated and self-directed.
  14. An influencer and motivator with effective leadership skills.
  15. Your own vehicle is required as some travel is required within the Greater Victoria area, with occasional travel to the Cowichan Valley region.
