Reporting To: Senior Director, CBC News Operations

As the Director of Local Operations, you will support and oversee local leaders managing day-to-day operations across the organization and drive our ongoing digital transformation as part of the CBC News Operations senior leadership team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support local operations managers in managing day-to-day operations across local production centres.
  • Ensure consistency and cohesiveness in operational standards and practices across CBC News.
  • Maintain alignment with Senior Managing Directors and provide timely updates on operational matters.
  • Collaborate to define strategic priorities for CBC News Operations.
  • Represent local production centres within the CBC News Operations Senior Leadership team.
  • Advocate for CBC News in enterprise-wide strategic planning related to technology and workflow.
  • Interact with peers and senior management to achieve results.
  • Serve as a key point of contact to escalate issues to senior management.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in media production, journalism or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of media production tools and technology.
  • Understanding of audience consumption behaviour and News Strategy.
  • Reliable, collaborative, and highly organized manager.
  • Long-term planning skills.
  • Negotiation skills - a strong asset.
  • Functional bilingualism (English/French) - a strong asset.
  • 5 years experience as a manager in media production.
