Finance Director (Law Firm)
Job description
Our client is a reputable full-service law firm with over 70 lawyers and multiple offices across Ontario. They are currently looking for an experienced Finance Director to join their growing firm.
Your new role
In this role, you will oversee all aspects of accounting operations and manage key functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, trust accounting, general accounting, payroll, work-in-progress, and revenue and expenditure cost accounting. You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing monthly and annual financial statements and reports across multiple companies.
Additionally, you will coordinate year-end working files, reviewing and/or preparing working papers, schedules, analyses, and other required documentation. You will develop and implement internal accounting policies and controls to ensure compliance. Providing employee training and ensuring adherence to compliance requirements will also be part of your responsibilities.
You will serve as the primary liaison with banks for general, trust, and credit banking matters. Moreover, you will ensure quality control over financial transactions, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting while clearly communicating monthly and annual financial statements.
What you will need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of relevant experience and a CPA (CA) designation. They will lead the accounting team, overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger management, capital management, and budgeting.
Additionally, the candidate will liaise with auditors, financial institutions, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies. They will support management in planning and decision-making by analyzing financial data, maintaining key information, and providing strategic recommendations.
The role requires proven experience in financial and data management at a senior level, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges creatively and strategically. Proficiency in Aderant Expert, Excel, PCLaw, and QuickBooks is essential, as well as familiarity with CMS and LEDES Task-Based Billing systems. A deep understanding of fiscal management, business finance, contracts, and partnerships is also required.
