Based in Brampton, our client is a privately-owned Canadian metal fabrication company seeking a dynamic Director of Finance. This opportunity arises as their long-serving Director transitions from the role after many years of dedicated service.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Finance will lead a team of 10 and oversee all financial operations to optimize profitability, support future growth, and plan for organizational succession.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Finance and Accounting:

  • Own, oversee and manage day-to-day finance and accounting activities while ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Manage the daily cash flow reporting, including updating the dashboard for Senior Management.
  • Co-ordinate with auditors on HST and/or CRA Audits.
  • Prepare various financial analyses as required.
  • Co-ordinate all year-end functions and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain financial controls within the accounting department.
  • Ensure the timely completion and accuracy of the company’s monthly/quarterly financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the financing activities to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting and finance systems.
  • Supervise and establish procedures relating to proper accounting, accounts payable, inventory, invoicing, and receiving, and ensure such procedures are correctly followed.
  • Lead/co-lead future system implementations/enhancements and provide recommendations for changes in in-house software.
  • Responsible for month-end closing, including financial analysis and commentary with distribution to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) monthly.
  • Responsible for Quarterly financial presentations to the ELT.
  • Data security/cybersecurity champion/advocate for the organization. Partner with CIO to secure the company’s data.
  • Responsible for making tax payments/installments.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving payments weekly.
  • Responsible for credit releases and reviews under specific thresholds as well as weekly meetings to discuss customer credit profiles to make decisions with the support of the VP Finance and Credit team.

Treasury/Banking:

  • Perform foreign exchange transactions to ensure we have proper USD coverage for the purchase of raw materials (open PO’s).
  • Manage/admin all bank users to ensure proper and restricted access.
  • Perform payments (wires, ACH, bill, tax payments) as required.
  • Covenants: Ensure covenants are consistent with terms defined by the bank and send quarterly reports.

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Budget: Prepare, discuss, and analyze the annual budget with product managers and Finance Leader.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts for the P&L and cash flow. Identify risks and opportunities to mitigate and improve financial performance.
  • Develop operational and financial KPIs to drive operational and financial excellence. Partner with Commercial and Operations to monitor performance and identify and drive accountability for performance indicators.
  • Conduct operational spend analysis. Optimize cost footprint. Identify projects and opportunities to reduce SG&A and indirect spend in operations.
  • Champion initiatives to improve working capital (i.e., reduce DSO, increase payables days to pay).

Audit:

  • Responsible for external audit (Interim, Inventory, and year-end).
  • Responsible for audit for sales tax review every two years.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in accounting is required.
  • At least 10 years of overall controllership, operational finance, treasury, and ideally credit management.
  • Experience with day-to-day financial operations: invoicing, banking, AP, inventory.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and management skills and the ability to interact effectively with Senior Management across the company.
  • Experience with new system implementation.
  • An ambitious individual with a drive to succeed and aptitude to learn.
  • Experienced hire with demonstrated excellence in controllership, operational finance, treasury, and ideally credit management.
  • Exposure to manufacturing is critical. Some family office experience is a positive.
  • Demonstrated change agent that has worked in or can adapt to a family-run business.
