JOB TITLE: Director of Career Services

SCOPE: Full Time/Exempt

SUPERVISION: VP of Participant Experience

DOORWAYS, a nationally-known interfaith non-profit, empowers clients to overcome poverty, HIV, and homelessness by providing numerous supportive services that improve Housing, Health and Hope. As a bi-state agency with broad impact, we assist nearly 3,500 clients annually. On the heels of opening our innovative 3-acre $40M Jefferson Ave. Campus, we are poised to expand our programming to improve service provision, while taking the organization to new heights.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The ideal Director of Career Services will have extensive partnership and program participation engagement experience and will work to provide opportunities for DOORWAYS Program Participants to increase their knowledge, skills and ability to obtain and retain employment. The candidate must be organized, flexible, have great attention to detail, and be highly capable of meeting expectations. The successful candidate will pass a background check, drug test, and TB test.

The Director of Career Services is accountable to the Vice President of Participant Experience and is responsible for the operation and oversight of the Career Services Department. This includes but is not limited to the development of employment opportunities and client employment advisement/coaching including career exploration and job placement and retention, training development, job fair attendance, budget management and quality assurance. The Director must have reliable transportation and attend functions off-site.

Day to day Job Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Oversees program services including job development, job coaching, job placement and retention and all supporting activities
  2. Supervises and evaluates department staff
  3. Provides leadership for, hosts and facilitates the St. Louis Employment Alliance activities
  4. Develops and implements annual budget and staffing plans to meet grant requirements and service needs
  5. Develops and manages department strategies to meet service goals
  6. Collaborates with all DOORWAYS Housing and Empowerment Programs to create and implement participant engagement strategies in Employment Services.
  7. Develops new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment/career opportunities for program participants
  8. Maintains accurate program participant records and employment documentation
  9. Provides career advising expertise to program participants regarding the job-search process, interviewing, resume, and letter writing, and all other facets of career planning
  10. Conducts workshops, seminars, and other presentations to program participants and outside groups on job readiness and professional development
  11. Creates, compiles, reviews and evaluates departmental reports and statistics
  12. Develops and implements marketing strategies to generate opportunities for employers and recruitment of job seekers to the program
  13. Shares current workforce development resources to keep up with trends in the labor force
  14. Maintains collaborative relationship with local partner agencies
  15. Advocates for program participants throughout the employment process, as needed
  16. Maintains program participant case load, as needed

Working Conditions:

  1. This position may require working off-site for events and meetings. Assigned hours are at the discretion of the Vice President of Participant Experience and will generally include usual office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
  2. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  3. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of twenty (20) pounds throughout the workday.

Requirements:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  1. A bachelor’s degree in administration, counseling, social work, psychology or related field
  2. Experience supervising others and significant work experience in employment services
  3. At least two years’ experience in job development or placement

  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality
