Banwell Gardens is a 142-bed home that has been approved for future redevelopment to 200 beds, allowing us to expand our capacity while continuing to provide high-quality senior care services.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the efficient daily operations of Banwell Gardens Care Centre. This role involves providing leadership to the resident care team, ensuring all services align with legislative requirements, professional standards, and the organization’s mission, vision, and policies.

The Director of Care ensures the availability of qualified staff, appropriate resources, and necessary equipment to deliver high-quality, resident-centered care. Through the implementation of a comprehensive quality improvement and risk management program, this role continuously monitors and enhances the quality of accommodations, services, and programs provided. Additionally, the Director of Care fosters a safe and supportive environment for residents, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines while promoting excellence in senior care.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management – Provide direction and oversight to the nursing team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
  • Resident Care & Quality Assurance – Ensure the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care in alignment with clinical best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management – Maintain compliance with Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) regulations, addressing incident reports and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Human Resources & Staff Development – Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management of nursing staff to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Budgeting & Resource Management – Manage the nursing department budget efficiently, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost-effective operations.
  • Communication & Collaboration – Foster open communication among residents, families, staff, and external stakeholders to enhance resident well-being and service quality.
  • On-Call & Emergency Response – Participate in an on-call rotation and ensure emergency protocols are in place to safeguard resident health and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or registered with another Canadian regulatory authority, meeting the equivalent independent practice requirements under Bill 60.
  • Minimum one (1) year of RN experience in the long-term care sector.
  • At least three (3) years of managerial or supervisory experience as an RN in a healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to deliver person-centered care in alignment with MLTC policies and home-specific protocols.
  • Thorough understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights, with a commitment to respecting and promoting resident rights.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols.
  • Proof of all mandatory vaccinations, with a strong recommendation to stay current with immunizations as per employer guidelines.
