JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Economic Development Committee, as the Director of Business Development, you will play a key role in the development and execution of economic development initiatives, and execution of strategy initiatives across the Tsuut’ina Nation (the “Nation”) often working with government agencies, private organizations and publicly traded companies to analyze, improve, and implement strategies for economic growth. This role involves research, data analysis, policy recommendation, assessing investment opportunities, continually improving tools and processes to support job creating investments, coordinating with partner organizations and stakeholder collaboration to enhance the economic well-being of the Nation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Economic Data Analysis – collect, analyze, and interpret economic data (employment trends, business growth, demographics, industry performance). Develop reports and dashboards to communicate economic trends and identify opportunities for the Tsuut'ina Nation’s social and economic development.
- Policy and Strategy Development – assist in developing economic strategies, policies, and programs to drive growth and job creation. Analyze current policies and recommend improvements.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration – work with government agencies, businesses, community leaders, and other stakeholders to align economic strategies. Facilitate partnerships and manage relationships to drive local economic growth, create jobs, and support community initiatives.
- Business Coaching – analyze and improve business processes, working with management teams to enhance efficiency. Develop goals, action plans, and marketing strategies, while educating employees on new programs.
- Market and Industry Research – conduct research on industries and markets to identify investment and expansion opportunities. Monitor global, national, and regional trends impacting local development.
- Project Management – support planning, execution, and monitoring of economic development projects. Contribute to RFP development and vendor evaluations. Manage multiple projects, ensuring goals and deadlines are met.
- Funding and Grant Management – assist in identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities. Manage budgets, proposals, and performance reporting while supporting business plans and feasibility studies.
- Economic Impact Analysis – assess the economic impact of projects and investments. Prepare cost-benefit analyses and feasibility studies to support decision-making.
- Reporting and Presentations – prepare detailed reports, presentations, and proposals for various stakeholders. Present findings and recommendations clearly and effectively.
- Financial Analysis and Valuation – maintain economic models of Nation assets, validate budgets, and contribute to business process development. Maximize economic value through new revenue opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Desired Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Business Management, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in economic development, public policy, business analysis, or a related field.
- Experience working with government agencies, economic development organizations, or large businesses is an asset.
- Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and capital planning is preferred.
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of economic development principles, practices, and trends.
- Insight into competitor benchmarking and regional/local economic factors influencing growth.
- Familiarity with First Nations, municipal, provincial, and federal economic development policies and programs.
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and research skills, including interpreting economic and demographic data.
- Proficient in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software) and computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe products.
- Experienced in creating thoughtful, data-driven strategies to attract investment, retain businesses, and create jobs.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, government officials, and community organizations.
