Director - New Build Regulatory Affairs

Your role within the team:

The Director – New Build Regulatory Affairs will report to the Program Director or General Manager, New Nuclear & New Markets and will be responsible for all aspects of engagement and relationship management with government organizations as it pertains to new builds of CANDU New Build projects. This will involve supporting or leading the following types of activities, in combination with government relations, project teams, and senior management.

  • Developing plans, with leadership and government relations teams, to enhance government to business processes, such as escalation and implementation of improved methods for obtaining import and export licenses.
  • Managing licensing and regulatory project and technical reviews with the CNSC or other regulatory bodies.
  • Liaison between AtkinsRéalis and various government agencies including the CNSC about business priorities and keeping these agencies abreast of our key business priorities and goals such that they can best support us and be prepared for requests before they are made.
  • Supporting customer requests for licensing interventions.
  • Advising and leading aspects of project regulatory interfaces including service contracts with the CNSC.
  • Supporting existing licensing teams in our radiation facilities as required.
  • Working with various government agencies to streamline and improve their service offerings including improvements to the method of reviewing import/export permits for various countries.
  • Across all aspects of Regulatory Affairs, build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and improve the current working methods and interfaces.

This role will require extensive interface with engineering organizations, procurement teams, and subcontracting teams within the nuclear new build projects to help facilitate any interactions with government regulatory bodies including the CNSC.

The ideal candidate:

  • 10+ years experience working in the nuclear industry.
  • 5+ years experience leading individuals and teams.
  • 5+ years experience in a role that demonstrates keen understanding of Canadian nuclear regulatory processes, import/export processes and intervention process for new applications.
  • Experience in New Nuclear Reactor licensing and construction projects.
  • Understanding of licensing large projects under complex regulatory environments.
  • A natural leader who can inspire a team to perform and work together towards a common goal.
  • Lead by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
