About the workplace

This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.

As the Director of Mergers & Acquisitions, you will lead mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships to advance the company’s growth agenda. Reporting directly to the VP of Strategy, Innovation and CEO’s Office, this role focuses on identifying high-impact opportunities, designing new partnership or merger models, managing end-to-end transaction processes, and collaborating with senior leadership.

A typical day would involve:

  1. Lead Mergers, Acquisitions, and Strategic Partnerships
    • Identify, assess, pursue, and design merger or acquisition targets and strategic partnerships to support business growth and diversification while creating impact in communities.
    • Oversee negotiations and due diligence to align opportunities with organizational objectives.
    • Manage the full transaction lifecycle, including deal sourcing, financial evaluation, approvals, and post-deal integration.
  2. Develop Financial Models and Conduct Risk Assessments
    • Build, maintain, and present detailed financial models, forecasts, and risk analyses to support strategic decision-making.
    • Ensure accuracy and relevance of models for both ongoing and prospective investments.
  3. Conduct Market Research and Strategic Analysis
    • Perform comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends, competitive dynamics, and potential growth areas.
    • Prepare actionable insights, investment theses and strategic recommendations for the Executive Leadership Team.
  4. Design new creative models for mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships
    • Develop new models that support the dual objectives of inorganic growth and supporting local community credit unions to survive in a thriving coop sector.
  5. Evaluate and Recommend Strategic Opportunities
    • Analyze and prioritize opportunities for acquisitions, divestitures, and partnerships to maximize value creation.
    • Provide data-driven recommendations to the VP of Strategy, Innovation, and CEO’s Office for decision-making.
  6. Collaborate with Senior Leadership
    • Partner with executives to define and advance enterprise development and partnership strategies.
    • Communicate strategic objectives and transaction progress across key stakeholders to ensure alignment and engagement.
  7. Ensure Regulatory Compliance
    • Oversee adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies during all transaction phases.
  8. Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with finance, legal, operations, and other departments to optimize deal terms and facilitate smooth integration.
    • Build strong internal and external relationships to support long-term partnerships and drive organizational value.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field; an MBA or similar advanced degree preferred.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Chartered Business Valuator preferred.
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in enterprise development, investment banking, private equity, deals or strategy consulting in financial services, banking, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of the cooperative sector and the unique challenges and opportunities it presents is an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing end-to-end M&A transactions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities on a multi-cultural environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills – You are proficient in financial modeling, valuation, and interpreting financial statements, with ability to manage ambiguity and make data-driven decisions.

  • A Strong Communicator - You use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate at all levels. You also have a proven track record in achieving favorable deal outcomes and managing complex negotiations.
  • A Project Manager – You are effective at managing large scale projects. You are adept at coordinating cross-functional teams, setting clear objectives, and maintaining project momentum. Your ability to anticipate potential challenges and proactively develop solutions ensures the successful delivery of complex initiatives.

The salary range for the role is $121,000 to $181,200. The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
