Job Description

CPP Investments is seeking a talented and energetic lawyer to join our Toronto office. You will be responsible for overseeing all commercial contracting matters and providing legal advice on a broad range of issues across CPP Investments, in relation to contracting, procurement, and related matters. Reporting to a Managing Director, the successful and exceptional candidate will be a key member of our global legal team, working closely with other senior lawyers and legal professionals across CPP Investments' international offices, investment teams, and enterprise partners. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead and manage complex contracting processes across the organization. Duties:

  • Overall responsibility for enterprise contracts including oversight, escalations, interpretation and disputes and final approvals
  • Managing a team of three contract specialists
  • Oversight of Contract Management System, including upgrades and enhancements (in partnership with Legal Operations team)
  • Partnership model with departments with high volume of contracts
  • Ownership of proposed AI redlining tool implementation (including review, selection and implementation)
  • Responsible for partnering with procurement and ensuring cohesion between their work and the contract intake, review and approval system.
  • Implementation of various Master Services Agreements with repeat vendors
Qualifications
  • LL.B./LL.M/JD or equivalent required
  • 8+ years of post-qualification corporate/commercial legal experience gained at a major law firm or in-house corporate legal department
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders and ability to manage external counsel
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Versatility and ability to work across broad range of subject matter areas
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including ability to negotiate and think on feet to resolve contractual impasses
  • Professional conduct reflecting the quality of work, demeanor, ethical values and high standards of CPP Investments
