What You’ll Be Doing

The role provides team leadership and direct responsibility for managing investments and investment oversight matters in CIBC Trust’s largest, most complex, and demanding client engagements. This includes developing and negotiating practical customized client solutions within CIBC Trust’s policy framework, delivering strategy, advice, and results while recognizing sensitivities and balancing outcomes for all stakeholders. The position maintains expert-level investment knowledge to analyze current market conditions, review investment products and proposals, contribute to the firm’s investment strategies and policies, and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders from senior executives to novice investors. The role also includes providing investment education and training support to employees, partners, and clients, as well as supporting day-to-day investment operations and special projects as assigned.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Investment Management Oversight: Lead the multi-billion-dollar investment oversight function within the department over internal CIBC partners and external Investment Managers.
  • Investment Portfolio Construction, Management, and Administration: Directly manage fully discretionary or advisory investment portfolios for complex high net worth, ultra high net worth, and institutional Estate, Trust, and Agency clients.
  • Internal and External Client Relationship Management: Develop and manage value-added relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Investment Research and Analysis: Stay current with financial and economic news to make informed investment decisions and recommendations for assigned portfolios.
  • Investment Management Operations: Support smooth operations of the Investment Management department within CIBC Trust by performing other investment and administrative functions as required.
  • Marketing, Sales, and Business Development: Provide investment expertise and support to the marketing, sales, and business development activities of CIBC Trust as required.

Who You Are

  • You are a seasoned professional: You have a Business/Commerce/Finance/Economics or Accounting degree with 10+ years of relevant investment management and/or brokerage experience. Basic French language capability is an asset.
  • You are a certified professional: You have your Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or full professional Investment or Accounting designation, with knowledge of Personal Financial Planning, Canadian Tax, Estate & Trust, and Investment Accounting.
  • You understand that success is in the details: Your critical thinking skills help inform your decision-making. You have deep analytical and investment research skills and are highly motivated to learn about new areas and analyze a broad range of issues.
  • You have exemplary communication skills: You possess strong spoken and written communication skills, including presentation and relationship management skills.
  • Your influence makes an impact: You can manage conflict and ambiguity; you are results-oriented, confident, assertive, organized, and methodical.
  • You're passionate about people: You build trust through respect and authenticity, with excellent relationship management skills.
