Join our team of passionate pension and benefits professionals dedicated to helping members build a secure financial future! Plannera Pensions & Benefits (Plannera), formerly known as the Public Employees’ Benefits Agency, is on the lookout for talented individuals to become part of our dynamic team of over 150 employees. Headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan, Plannera oversees $15 billion in assets across 11 pension plans and 23 benefits programs in the province. As a not-for-profit corporation, we take pride in administering two of Canada's top 100 pension plans—the Public Employees Pension Plan (PEPP), the country’s largest defined contribution plan, and the Municipal Employees' Pension Plan (MEPP). We serve over 900 employers and 100,000 plan members, everyone from small-town firefighters to crown corporation executives.

The Opportunity

Plannera is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking leader to fill the role of Director of Internal Audit. This position will lead the execution of internal audits, assess the effectiveness of control governance, and manage risk across the organization. Reporting directly to the Finance Committee and the President & CEO, the Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing operational efficiency in pension and benefits administration.

In this role, you will develop a strategic annual audit plan, assess internal controls, provide critical insights and recommendations to senior leadership, and collaborate across departments to drive continuous improvement. You will also be responsible for overseeing the internal audit team, mentoring staff, and establishing best-in-class audit processes.

Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate is a dynamic and strategic leader with proven experience in internal audit, governance, and risk management. You possess exceptional problem-solving skills and can navigate complex regulatory environments with ease. You excel at managing competing priorities and have a strong understanding of both internal controls and financial compliance, particularly in the pension and benefits sector.

Key qualifications include:

  • A deep understanding of internal audit principles, financial regulations, and risk management strategies.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with experience leading high-performing teams.
  • The ability to provide strategic advice to senior leadership and effectively communicate audit findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • A high level of adaptability and resilience, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • A CIA and/or CPA designation or equivalent is strongly preferred, along with 7+ years of experience in audit or financial compliance, ideally in a related industry.
  • Experience reporting directly to a Board of Directors and Audit Committees.
