The Opportunity:

We’re looking for a Director, Insurance Programs and Services to join our Insurance team.

Reporting to the Senior VP, Insurance and Advance Planning, the Director, Insurance Programs and Services is responsible for leading the Insurance Operations team of 7 in our National Account Managing General Agency (MGA). The Director also works collaboratively with 4 Regional Insurance Consultants (RICS) and the Insurance Business Development Manager to provide a full suite of MGA services to a growing number of insurance advisors. This position plays a key role in delivering corporate insurance growth strategies by ensuring high service standards in the MGA back office, and by managing contracts and relationships with insurance suppliers and vendors.

What your day looks like:

  • Relationship Management: establish and maintain strong business relationships with insurance companies, systems and software vendors, and manage a separate AGA relationship. Review and negotiate supplier contracts, including special requirements for our unique distribution model. Manage marketing allowances, co-ordinate training and education delivery from insurance companies, including monthly webcasts. Handle communications relating to insurance strategy, including quarterly insurance success stories
  • Project Management: responsible for handling internal projects and liaising with other departments to ensure insurance strategic goals can be executed. Examples include implementation of insurance data feeds, re-branding insurance agency, launching new advisor training program. Change management is integral to this role as our insurance distribution model continues to evolve to capitalize on new technologies, growth and marketing opportunities
  • Insurance Operations: the insurance operations team reports to the Director. This team is responsible for all new business processing, policy service, agent contracting and transfers of business including bulk transfers and individual policy transfers. Maintaining high service standards in insurance operations and finding other ways to provide value added services to our advisors is an essential part of this role. Implementing Book of Business feeds from carriers into WealthServ is an important tactical goal for our MGA

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • University degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity
  • In-depth knowledge of life insurance agency operations, including National Account and MGA contracts, new business and policy service, agent contracting and policy transfers
  • Familiarity with insurance sales process and types of insurance products is preferred.
  • Understanding insurance commissions is an asset
  • Familiarity with credit union wealth management is also an asset
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset. Excellent written communication skills are required in this role
  • Problem solving and time management skills are essential in this role
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively are both required
  • Experience with MS Office Suite is required

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $124,000 - $158,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
