Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources - Operations, the Human Resources Director will apply generalist experience coupled with business knowledge to provide strategic counsel and hands-on support to assigned business portfolios. A true generalist, the Director will provide guidance and direction on all HR functions, programs, and initiatives while instilling our culture and promoting a positive employee experience.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador for the organization’s vision and values, ensuring all employee practices are effective in reinforcing the organization’s values and vision.
  • Promote an open-door policy, being visible and accessible to client groups and the HR team.
  • Foster and promote a positive workplace culture focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and employee well-being.
  • Support an effective approach to performance development with managers, providing guidance with the identification, creation, and delivery of development plans including both improvement and hi-potential opportunities as needed.
  • Provide strategic human resources leadership and determine the best HR solutions, including strategies, programs, and processes to address the client group’s talent and workforce needs.
  • Deliver exceptional coaching and consulting to business leaders across the organization through direction, support, and guidance on all people-related issues.
  • Develop and implement company programs and initiatives that are aligned with the company’s overall business goals, collaborating closely with the wider operational management team as a business partner.
  • Partner with other members of the HR team to help drive consistency across program engagement within all asset classes.
  • Educate and guide managers on the comprehension and utilization of our Top-Grading model, ensuring it is applied to all recruitment, talent review, and performance management activities.
  • Actively participate in the year-end performance process providing support and facilitation where needed in the talent review process within assigned business units.
  • Support employee engagement programs and work with leaders to analyze and create solution-oriented action plans as needed.
  • Partner with business leadership teams on orientation and onboarding activities, promoting an ‘employee for life’ experience.
  • Lead employee relations investigations, providing sound recommendations and advice in compliance with all regulatory governance.
  • Communicate current and evolving legal requirements to management and employees as required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and broader HR team to address disability management including return to work and accommodation options in the workplace.
  • Provide direction on all HR aspects of property acquisition and divestment activities, leading direction for on-site support to business unit teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve policies, processes, and procedures cross-functionally as part of the HR team.
  • Lead a small team of direct reports to ensure the implementation of consistent human resource strategic initiatives and business support across the function.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of HR best practices and regulations, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, and other governing bodies.

  • Exceptional understanding of organizational design and efficiencies in team structures.
  • Ability to develop and implement HR initiatives while balancing the day-to-day tactical HR needs.
  • Analytical thinking of HR function to support development of metrics and measures to evaluate programs.
  • Bias for action but shows tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Exhibits high level of customer focus and service orientation.
  • Proven ability to work with and support a diverse employee population nationally.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.

  • Ability to prioritize workload; multi-task under pressure as well as manage very detailed level project work.

  • Exhibit a willingness to provide hands-on tactical approach to both HR and Business Unit initiatives/activities.

Education

  • Degree in Business, Human Resources, or another relevant field.
  • CHRP designation considered an asset.
  • Good understanding of MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience with Workday, or other HR information systems is advantageous.

Experience

  • 10+ years progressive experience in HR with at least 5 years in a management or senior leadership role.
  • Proven ability to support a workforce across multiple provinces/locations in Canada; global experience is an asset.
