Job Description:

Role Summary

Reporting to the AVP Governance and Portfolio Management, the Director, Group Governance and Risk Management is a key contributor to the success of the Canada Group Benefits (GB) and Group Retirement Services (GRS) business units. This role will establish and lead a team in delivering governance support to both businesses, with an initial focus on supporting the sponsor sales, contracting, and due diligence processes. The mandate also includes oversight of privacy programs related to the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

What will you do?

  • Establish the framework, structure and processes for a new team of governance managers supporting GB and GRS. Develop and implement resource allocation and work prioritization plans; process flows and documentation; and approval channels and escalations paths.
  • Participate in client due diligence processes, e.g. meetings with clients or auditors.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to secure additional resource expertise when needed.
  • Implement standardized processes to complete ongoing regulatory questionnaires.
  • Oversee processes to support annual SOC2 certification requirements.
  • Provide guidance on governance content in sales support materials and custom agreements.
  • Monitor the external environment, e.g. legislative changes, to understand and assess potential impact to the business.
  • Lead a team of individual contributors by providing ongoing coaching and feedback; prioritizing work and allocating resources; and removing roadblocks.
  • Drive the evolution of the team’s mandate and processes to meet additional business needs and close gaps. Identify opportunities, assess business priorities and resource capacity, and propose solutions.

What you need to succeed?

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • 10+ years relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of GB and GRS products and services, the regulatory environment and emerging issues impacting the business.
  • Working knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and processes.
  • Excellent partnership and collaboration skills; ability to manage through influence.
  • Self-starter, with the proven ability to build and establish new teams and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to think clearly and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present effectively to executives, clients, and external audiences.
  • Ability to excel in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Bilingual (French) is a strong asset.
  • CEBS designation is a strong asset.
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
