ABOUT YOUR ROLE

We’re seeking a Director, Global Government Affairs, to manage domestic and international government relations and support our offices in London, New York and Hong Kong. The role reports to the Senior Director, Public Relations and Global Government Affairs in the Strategic Communications and Global Government Affairs (SCGGA). The preferred location of this role is Montreal, but we are open to candidates based in Ottawa, with the expectation of regular travel to the Montreal office.

As a Director, Global Government Affairs, your duties will include:

  • Contribute to developing and implementing government affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with PSP’s business objectives and SCGGA Global Strategy.
  • Track and analyze national and international policy developments, legislative changes, and public policy initiatives impacting the institution’s global operations.
  • Provide strategic advice on government affairs to internal clients across various levels of the organization, helping them navigate Canadian and international political and regulatory environments.
  • Contribute to the risk management responsibility of the SCGGA team by ensuring early identification and mitigation of political or reputational risks in Canada and abroad.
  • Contribute to the organization of events to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements related to PSP’s statutory obligations (e.g., annual public meeting).
  • Prepare senior leadership for high-level meetings with national and international government stakeholders, providing strategic briefing materials and messaging.
  • Collaborate with asset classes and other internal clients (e.g., Legal Affairs, Taxation, Risk, Sustainability and Climate Innovation) to ensure strategic alignment and manage reputational risk.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders in Canada and abroad, regulatory bodies, foreign policy think tanks, and industry leaders.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with industry peers (Maple 8), facilitating PSP Investments’ active participation in joint events and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external advisors to support PSP Investment’s domestic and global government affairs initiatives.
  • Represent PSP investment at industry events, summits, and forums to promote PSP Investments’ interests.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Relations, International Relations, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in government, public relations, government relations, public policy, or a related field within a financial institution, regulatory agency, or public sector organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex political developments and their impact on business operations. Strong presentation skills and ability to influence and advise senior leadership.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian public administration, government operations, and/or Crown corporations.
  • Knowledge of international government affairs, foreign policy, and regulatory landscapes affecting financial institutions and investments.
  • Proven experience building and managing relationships with high-level government stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders on a global scale.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required.
  • Bilingualism: English and French (frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa).
