Our client, a leader in their field, located in SE Calgary, is seeking a dedicated and strategic leader to step into the role of Director, Financial & Sustainability Reporting for a 14-month contract. This role is integral in managing and overseeing the accurate preparation and communication of financial and sustainability metrics, ensuring transparency and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable accounting standards.
Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financial results, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Work closely with finance teams to provide insights into financial performance and emerging trends.
Sustainability Reporting:
Develop and manage sustainability reporting structures in alignment with established frameworks such as GRI, SASB, or other relevant guidelines.
Collect, verify, and analyze sustainability data from multiple business units to maintain accuracy and completeness.
Partner with cross-functional teams to support and enhance sustainability initiatives, driving meaningful improvements.
Integrated Reporting:
Combine financial and sustainability data to present a holistic view of company performance.
Create narratives that clearly illustrate the interconnection between financial results and sustainability commitments for a variety of stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance:
Communicate financial and sustainability performance metrics to stakeholders, including investors, regulatory agencies, and sustainability rating organizations.
Monitor changes in financial and sustainability reporting regulations to ensure compliance and alignment with industry best practices.
Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address any evolving reporting requirements.
Process Optimization & Leadership:
Identify opportunities to enhance and streamline reporting processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.
Implement best practices and technological advancements to improve reporting quality.
Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a culture of continuous growth and development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Sustainability, or a related field. Advanced degrees or professional designations (e.g., CPA, CMA, GRI) are an asset.
Extensive experience in financial reporting, sustainability reporting, or a combination of both.
Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and sustainability frameworks.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements surrounding financial and sustainability reporting.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
