About the workplace

As Director, Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management, you are accountable for managing programs, operations, strategies, and teams that support Real Estate Planning & Design, Leasing and Property Management, Capital Programs, Building Projects and Branch Maintenance at Vancity. You’ll be responsible for building, developing, and coaching a strong, diverse, and high-performing team of Corporate Real Estate and Facilities (CREF) professionals to deliver a sustainable, seamless and efficient physical experience for all Vancity stakeholders and members.

As a senior leader, this role represents the organization both internally and externally, ensuring that Vancity’s brand and values are reflected in every interaction. The Director leads specialized CREF teams in driving excellence across the function while assuring that Vancity meets its own ESG targets and minimizes its environmental footprint.

This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work on-site at least once a week.

A typical day would involve:

  • Lead and collaborate in overseeing corporate real estate and facilities strategies and operations to align with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing customer focused CREF team, fostering a culture that reflects Vancity’s values.
  • Direct the analysis, strategy, communications, operations, approvals and execution of all Vancity Real Estate Lease, Purchase and Sale transactions.
  • Lead all CREF Capital planning, project management and construction management.
  • Oversee planning, project management, construction, operations and facilities maintenance for all Vancity occupied spaces, including branches and office spaces.
  • Implement guidelines, tools and standards to assure CREF are effective and efficient in their service to Vancity.
  • Develop and monitor Vancity’s Carbon Footprint Mitigation programs. Assure operational impact on the environment is minimized within the enterprise risk management framework including ongoing measurements that demonstrate the programs are meeting corporate targets for greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Develop and deliver short-term and long-term CREF programs that enhance stakeholder value through cost savings, operational effectiveness and physical risk management.
  • Lead the overall branching models and strategies that are in line with Vancity stakeholders’ business requirements. This includes all lease or own issues and the overall Vancity site footprint targets and delivery.
  • Establish and manage the framework for the ATM/POS debit card delivery channel through the selection, implementation and management of technical network solutions, equipment suppliers, partnerships and switch providers that provides members with excellent service levels for the access to their funds at ATMs or POS.
  • Ensure all corporate real estate meets regulatory standards while balancing internal stakeholder requirements.
  • Ensure all CREF workflow follow spending and delegation of authority policies.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Architecture, or Facilities Management (or equivalent)
  • Master’s Degree (MBA or MRE - Master of Real Estate) is a nice to have.
  • 10+ years of progressively senior experience in Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management with exposure to Financial Industry retail, commercial spaces and class A office towers.
  • 5+ years in senior leadership roles, including managing teams, policies and budgets.
  • Experience with commercial leasing, asset management, capital planning, facilities maintenance and workplace design and strategy.
  • The following certifications are an asset: Real Property Administrator (RPA), Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Leadership in Energy, Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) or similar
  • Extensive lease administration and portfolio management experience including lease negotiation, real estate acquisitions, and dispositions.
  • Knowledge of building codes, environmental standards, and physical risk management in the financial industry or similar is an asset.
  • Familiarity with real estate analytics, metrics and technology solutions for asset management, design and work order processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, MS Project and Visio.
  • Experience overseeing financial aspects of real estate operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization.
  • Leadership & stakeholder management, engaging executives, managers, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with professionals at all levels, including executives.
  • Exceptional business acumen, strategic thinking, negotiation & conflict resolution skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with active listening capabilities.
  • Strong prioritization skills, results-driven, and hands-on approach.

The salary range for this role is $121,000 to $201,600 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
