Overview

The Director of Clinical Services at Hampstead Hospital applies broad, strategic, and long-term administration across all disciplinary clinical aspects of patient care. The role directs the development and implementation of hospital clinical programming and initiates strategic performance improvement projects. This position is also responsible for monitoring the quality, integrity, and appropriateness of social work services provided. This individual oversees the Nursing Department and Medical Staff to ensure all disciplines are working most effectively as a team in the provision of patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates leadership abilities through the effective use of communication, problem solving, and team building; performs analysis and research to implement policies and procedures and to address complex clinical service and delivery issues within ongoing hospital operations; ensures short- and long-term care goals are compliant with state and federal standards and regulatory agencies.
  2. Directs the development of diverse clinical programming and oversees clinical personnel and managers to ensure that the highest quality of patient-centered care is being provided. Determines and develops long-range goals and objectives for providing psychological services to clients.
  3. Oversees and provides clinical expertise and consultation and support to the Admissions Department and in other clinical service areas. Serves as subject matter expert for clinical service consultation and coordinates efforts with cross-disciplines.
  4. Provides clinical oversight of all clinical services staff. Ensures these services are well coordinated and integrated with other psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial treatments and other hospital programs.
  5. Provides direct-care clinical services and consultation including psychological testing and therapeutic interventions for complex and difficult cases, as determined by organizational need.
  6. Applies a broad range of administrative and clinical skills involving the oversight of admissions, treatment, in-service and educational opportunities, as well as Unit Service operations and appropriate charting in accordance with hospital standards and mission. Ensures appropriateness of all documentation for compliance with all Joint Commission, State Licensing, and Medicare standards applicable to clinical services.
  7. Actively participates in internal and external committees that benefit hospital clinical services and operations including the Patient Care Committee and Performance Improvement Committee. Presents data and research to internal and external stakeholders to support high-quality psychological services to people with complex psychological needs. Collaborates with hospital administration and personnel to identify and support outcome and research efforts of the agency.
  8. Directs, establishes, and promotes collaborative relationships with clinical services, education, managers, and social work services staff, department members, all other hospital departments, outside agencies, vendors, and consultants to promote achievement of hospital goals, fostering a positive organizational culture.
  9. Consistently promotes and demonstrates adherence to New Hampshire Hospital’s core values of integrity, collaboration, compassion, excellence, and being person-centered.
  10. Oversees personnel involved in the management of personnel resources including recruiting, hiring/terminating, orienting, and evaluating employees, maintaining clinical competencies, and quality monitoring of employee performance. Identifies issues and facilitates resolutions of problems; coaches/trains staff to improve performance, and takes disciplinary actions when indicated to ensure provision of high-quality clinical psychology services to patients and stakeholders. Provides ongoing assessment and allocation of human and material resources that meet organizational and clinical needs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in psychology, social work, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
  • Ten years of experience in clinical psychology or social work with high-level supervisory, administrative, and/or business management responsibilities. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the graduate level only.
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of multidisciplinary treatment providers.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker (LICSW) or Psychology license must be current and in good standing according to the appropriate governing board.
