General Description: The Director of Canada Finance will lead all aspects of accounting and finance activities in the Canada P&L including, but not limited to, statutory accounting and financial close, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. This individual will help build consistent and effective financial processes to guide business partners on performance, forecasting and business optimization decisions. S/he will collaborate with the broader Finance organization to ensure effective delivery on commitments for accounting, controls, and financial reporting.

The successful candidate will have deep pharmaceutical experience with an understanding of Commercial & Medical Affairs operations, drivers, and strategies. S/he will be a hands-on and valued partner that provides analytical and strategic support and works closely with Canadian team and the broader finance organization to support high quality decision making while adhering to budget guidelines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

This role reports to Executive Director, North America Commercial & Global (ex-China) Medical Finance. This individual will be a member of the Canadian Leadership Team with a dotted reporting line to the Canadian General Manager.

Essential Functions of the job:

  1. Lead finance and accounting processes in Canada, including operating expense accruals, gross-to-net accounting, revenue recognition and all other relevant financial close activities.
  2. Lead quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting and long range planning processes, adhering to corporate requirements and deadlines and integrated with Global Commercial processes.
  3. Drive cost efficiencies, maximize profitability and optimize resource allocation in the country P&L.
  4. Own gross-to-net accounting and provincial rebate model.
  5. Analyze monthly/quarterly performance and provide insights on variances of actuals vs. budget.
  6. Deliver relevant, timely and compelling financial analyses to drive performance and enable strategic decision making.
  7. Work cross-functionally across commercial, supply chain, R&D and other functions to ensure integration and alignment of interdependent activities related to commercial and pipeline assets.
  8. Act as key member of launch planning team during commercialization of new assets.
  9. Maintain a strategic focus on key investment areas to drive value in the long range planning period.
  10. Evaluate financial risks and opportunities in Canadian operations and supply chain.
  11. Collaborate with global finance organization to align on global policies and procedures, financial system enhancements and to share/implement best practices.
  12. Review and approve vendor contracts and engage with procurement to ensure timely and cost effective contracting processes.
  13. Establish and maintain robust internal controls and adhere to corporate SOX documentation requirements and controls.
  14. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  15. Execute on special projects as needed.

Computer Skills:

  1. Strong computer software skills (Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  2. Substantial experience using financial systems, including enterprise ERP and budgeting tools (e.g., TM1, SAP, Hyperion, Power BI, etc).

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business administration required.
  2. MBA or Master of Accounting/Finance preferred.
  3. Minimum of 10+ years of relevant finance/accounting experience.
  4. Background in Pharma/Biotech industry preferred.

Location: Toronto (Ontario, Canada); In office 3 days per week.

Travel: Occasional travel (<10%).
