About the workplace

This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Leader who can advance our accounting operations to the next level through enhancements and introduce new process and systems implementations. As a change leader and relationship builder, you’re known for leading and operating with an innovative and collaborative approach, and you work well with cross-functional teams to develop solutions-oriented decisions and dynamic strategies. Communicating potentially complex thoughts, ideas, and material effectively to staff and stakeholders alike comes easily to you.

You can shift from big picture to detail effortlessly and use your planning and organizational skills to achieve multiple objectives in a logical sequence. Highly analytical, you’re able to understand audiences, determine what resonates with them, and find ways to drive deeper customer loyalty and achieve business KPIs.

A typical day would involve:

  • Leads and fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, integrity, and curiosity throughout the team to deepen relationships across the organization and leverage the entire credit union’s relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Plan, direct and control all accounting operational functions including Vancity’s financial statements and results.
  • Provide strategic accounting guidance and support to all Vancity entities.
  • Lead and foster operational efficiency and integrity of financial and non-financial information.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, enforcing, and monitoring financial policies, processes, and controls.
  • Develop an effective tax strategy that maximizes tax planning opportunities, minimizes tax risk, and enables effective decision making that is consistent with business objectives while ensuring compliance with all relevant tax legislation.
  • Oversee key non-financial (accountability) results to enable Vancity to meet all relevant reporting standards and deliver against its values and commitments.
  • Ensure Vancity has an efficient and effective regulatory reporting function business processes and controls that protect Vancity’s financial assets and foster operational efficiency and integrity of financial information.
  • Integrate risk management processes to ensure the ongoing identification, monitoring, and assessment of risk, including implementing strategies to address key risks.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, business, or a related field
  • 10 years of accounting experience including public practice, with financial services or related industry experience being an asset
  • Experience in leading a complex accounting function.
  • CPA or CGA designation
  • Proven ability to lead a team through transformational change.
