Responsibilities
- Operate HDD 10*15 or 23*30.
- Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies and processes and always acting in a safe manner.
- Ability to read locates, and any underground facility plans/drawings.
- Inspect and maintain equipment regularly including preventive maintenance.
- Operate motorized vehicle and trailer and properly secure and transport equipment to work site and safety off load.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork and documentation.
- Perform labor tasks with the use of shovel and hand tools to complete each assignment, including site clean-up.
- Ensure effective use of time, materials, fuel and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
- Complete a walk-through of all the drill shots with the drilling foreman prior to conducting the work.
- Participate in site safety including pre-job orientations, Daily Toolbox meetings, monthly safety meetings etc.
- Complete all daily safety paperwork (FLHAs, HDD Ground Disturbance Checklists and pre-use forms) as specified.
Personal Qualities
- Detail oriented – accuracy is required.
- Independent – ability to work well under limited supervision.
- Interpersonal Skills – ability to work well in a team.
Qualifications
- Class 5 driver’s license.
- Experience as a Directional Drill Locator is required.
- Experience in operating 1-ton trucks and Trailers is required.
- Experience in Fiber Optics is an asset.
- Mechanically Inclined.
- Ability to manage a physically demanding job that involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, working at heights, and in confined space as well as the ability to travel for work.
- Knowledge of and experience working with underground utilities.
Working Conditions
- Physically demanding workload.
- Work Location: Work in locations that preclude the ability to return home.
- Work Hours: Shift work (Weekend is part of shift rotation).
- Travelling is required.
Minimum Education
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Clean driver’s abstract.
• Previous Telecommunication/ OSP experience is an asset
