Position Summary

Full-Time Support Staff, new position

Here at Conestoga College, we connect life and learning. We have so many stories to tell, and we are looking for a Digital Storyteller to help share and showcase our college. We’re looking for someone to bring our vibrant community to life by capturing captivating content at our various campuses to tell inspiring stories that resonate across our digital platforms.

Reporting to the Manager, Creative & Client Services, the Digital Storyteller is responsible for creating compelling video and photo content for Conestoga’s various digital communications channels. This role will focus on providing visual content that aids in telling stories that engage with Conestoga’s online community. As a key content creator, this role will bring the vision to create visual narratives that resonate with our various audiences across our digital properties.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on-site as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Conestoga has campus locations in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, Guelph, Ingersoll, Stratford, and Milton. On-site work and travel are required as needed between Conestoga locations to capture compelling content.

Responsibilities

Content creation

  • Leads in the creation (shooting and editing) of authentic and compelling video and photo content that tells Conestoga’s story across various social media platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Collaborates with the Digital Media Coordinator to create content to support ongoing series tailored to specific social and digital platforms, ensuring broad and consistent coverage across the college that supports Conestoga’s brand narrative.
  • Writes, edits, and produces short-form and long-form narrative-driven content, using videos, photos, infographics and other interactive content that satisfies our goal of cohesive storytelling and brand narrative.
  • Captures key college events as they relate to the overall brand and supports corporate communications with timely promotion of these events on the appropriate digital platforms.
  • Ensures Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance of digital material where applicable.
Content partnership and strategy

  • Contributes to the development of short-term and long-term content strategy, considering various key stakeholders and the platforms we serve.
  • Maintains familiarity with secondary social channels and posted content to ensure a cohesive brand and storytelling experience across all platforms at the college.
  • Suggests content best practices, recommends strategic course correction and new strategies.
  • Acts as the main point of contact with the domestic program promotion team, including the Digital Marketing Strategist, to ensure adherence to brand and storytelling strategies as they relate to digital advertising campaigns.
Content maintenance

  • Acts as an administrator of the PhotoShelter content management system.
  • Collects and maintains a library of digital content using the PhotoShelter digital asset management system and other archival tools.
  • Distributes requested multimedia content to community stakeholders as requested.
Community of practice

  • Helps to develop and update social media policies and practices and disseminate this information to stakeholders via the community of practice.
  • Acts as a point of contact for college stakeholders with questions about digital storytelling best practices.
Qualifications

  • Three-year diploma or degree in marketing, television production, social media marketing, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in digital content production or social media marketing is required; experience in post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Strong storytelling skills with a proven ability to create engaging digital content.
  • Expert understanding of social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, and Discord, and the backend business systems that power them.
  • Excellent video and photography production and post-production (editing) skills.
  • Understanding of social media tools, such as Hootsuite, Loomly, and other analytics platforms.
  • Writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone to the audience.
  • Proficient in graphic and video creation tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for storytelling.
  • Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices.
  • Understanding of digital asset management systems and best practices.
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to Conestoga locations and off-site for special events.
