Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Hospital/medical facility or clinic.

Responsibilities

Tasks

• Analyze the patient during the treatments
• Operate ultrasound imaging equipment to produce and record images
• Monitor examination to evaluate quality and consistency of diagnostic images, and make adjustments to equipment, as required
• Train students or other medical sonographers
• Record, store and process scanned images by using camera unit connected to the ultrasound equipment
• Prepare examination reports for physicians
• Check ultrasound equipment to ensure proper operation
• Operate electrocardiographs, cardiac ultrasound and other electronic equipment

Credentials

Certificates, Licences, Memberships, and Courses

• Canadian Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Registration
• Certification by a provincial or territorial association

Experience and Specialization

Area of Specialization

• Obstetrical and gynecological sonography
• Pediatric echocardiography
• Pediatric neurosonology

$34.24 to $41.36 per hour (To be negotiated) / 70 hours bi-weekly
