About the workplace
As a DevOps Engineer, you are responsible for managing and automating the infrastructure and deployment pipelines to ensure continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) of software applications. This role collaborates closely with Developers, Operations, Cloud Engineering, Observability, and SRE teams to streamline workflows, improve the scalability, reliability, and performance of systems, and ensure the seamless deployment of applications. The DevOps Engineer will utilize a variety of cloud, automation, and containerization technologies, including AKS, AZDO, Terraform, Control-M to build and maintain robust infrastructure and processes that support the company's development goals and improve operational efficiency.
This role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work in-office at least once a week and participate in the rotational on-call schedule.
A typical day would involve:
- Infrastructure Automation and Management
- Automate and maintain the infrastructure required to support the software lifecycle, including provisioning, scaling, and monitoring of systems, servers, and networks. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Ensure systems are scalable, secure, and highly available. Increases efficiency, reduces manual intervention, and ensures infrastructure is flexible and able to grow with business needs with reliable automation through Control-M or UIPath.
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) Pipeline Management
- Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to automate the testing, integration, and deployment of applications through AZDO.
- Monitor and improve pipeline efficiency to reduce deployment time and increase software release frequency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to failed builds, deployments, and test failures. Ensuring faster, reliable software delivery with reduced manual errors, which aligns with the organization’s agility goals.
- System Monitoring, Logging, and Performance Optimization
- Continuously monitor systems, applications, and networks to ensure they are functioning optimally and are well-optimized for performance and reliability, using tools like Grafana.
- Analyze logs, performance metrics, and usage data to proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they affect users.
- Optimize application and system performance by identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies, minimizing downtime to ensure a smooth user experience.
- Collaboration with Development, QA, and Operations Teams
- Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth software delivery and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate code changes seamlessly into production environments.
- Provide infrastructure support for testing, staging, and production environments to enhance cross-functional collaboration, improve software quality, and ensure that operations and development teams are aligned on requirements and timelines.
- Security and Compliance Management
- Ensure that infrastructure and application deployment pipelines are secure and compliant with relevant regulations and internal policies.
- Implement security best practices, including secure coding, patch management, and vulnerability scanning.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, as well as external regulations such as PCI, SOC II, etc.
- Conduct security audits and resolve vulnerabilities within infrastructure and code.
- Incident Management and Disaster Recovery
- Handle incidents and outages effectively to minimize downtime and data loss, and ensure business continuity.
- Help develop disaster recovery plans and ensure timely backups are in place. Attend root cause analysis sessions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or related areas.
- Microsoft Certified in Azure DevOps Engineer and Azure Fundamentals.
- Ability to troubleshoot, debug, optimize performance, and drive automation for efficiency improvements.
- Knowledge of security best practices, compliance frameworks, and secure cloud infrastructure management.
Technical Skills
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Proficiency with Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, and related technologies.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Hands-on experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., Azure DevOps).
- Monitoring & Logging: Familiarity with tools such as Grafana.
- Strong scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc) and automation skills, with experience with tools such as Control-M.
- Experience with Windows and Linux environments, TCP/IP networking, load balancing, firewalls, and SSL/TLS encryption.

The salary range for this role is $81,200 to $122,000 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
