Reporting to: Corporate Partnerships Manager within the International Programs and Partnerships Team

Position Type: Full-Time, permanent

Language: English essential, French an asset

Salary: $65,000 – $70,000 annually

Job Requirement: Must be currently eligible to work in Canada

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Corporate Partnerships Manager, the Development Officer plays a collaborative role in developing and implementing strategies to secure significant financial support from mid-size donors (corporate, community-based groups, foundations and events). This position requires a dynamic and results-oriented individual who can build and maintain strong relationships with donors. You will develop and implement strategies to cultivate and engage with donors who have the potential to make four – five figure gift contributions. You possess a proven track record in fundraising and event planning, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Success in this role means you will not only meet financial targets but also ensure that donors feel valued and informed about the impact of their contributions.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Identify, cultivate, and solicit medium-size gifts from prospects (corporate, community-based groups, and foundations) ensuring personalized and meaningful engagement.
  2. Manage existing fundraising relationships with current donors and provide regular updates and stewardship.
  3. Arrange virtual and in-person meetings with prospects and donors.
  4. Prepare compelling communications and marketing materials for prospecting and stewardship presentations.
  5. Collaborate with the Development Team in prospecting and research activities.
  6. Respond to incoming inquiries from community partners related to fundraising initiatives.
  7. Plan and execute donor events and recognition programs.
  8. Develop plans, budgets and critical paths for select fundraising events across Canada.
  9. Prospect and secure event sponsorship and in-kind contributions.
  10. Co-ordinate event logistics: venue selection, guest lists, vendor agreements.
  11. Engage with communications team to develop and implement event marketing strategies, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.
  12. Ensure consistent messaging that SOS Children’s Villages Canada is viewed as a trusted leader, and recognized authority within Canada’s international development and humanitarian sector.
  13. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in donor fundraising.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated track record of corporate, community and foundation fundraising success, event planning and implementation.
  2. A passion for, and knowledge of, child-focused international development and humanitarian assistance programming.
  3. High-energy, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build strong relationships.
  4. Adept at effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously and establishing priorities in a busy environment with varying workload demands.
  5. Self-directed, able to independently resolve issues that arise.
  6. Highly collaborative and service driven working style; experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  7. A creative thinker with strong organizational and project management skills.
  8. A sincere commitment to work collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders, including board members and volunteers.
  9. Sound understanding of fundraising principles (CFRE designation is an asset).
  10. Ability to travel frequently in and outside of Ontario for meetings and events.
  11. A degree/diploma in marketing, communications, international studies and/or equivalent related experience is an asset.
