Development Coordinator

Primary Purpose: We are seeking a dynamic and passionate entry-level Development Coordinator to join our team and help drive the growth of our donor pipeline while retaining existing donors. This person will support work with donors and maintain a strong donor pipeline to the College of Law. This person will also ensure our fiscal responsibility to donors is a top priority by managing donor reporting processes, donor relations, and the college level donor stewardship program.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Development Officer, the Development Coordinator will play a crucial role in the fundraising efforts of the College of Law. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and potential donors, building relationships, asking for philanthropic support, reporting to donors on the impact of their giving, and maintaining donor engagement.

You will also manage the College of Law’s stewardship activities in coordination with the central University Relations team and play an active role in donor relations and donor events for the college.

The Development Coordinator is required to garner an in-depth understanding of the College of Law’s priorities, programs, initiatives, and stakeholders with the mandate to build relationships that support gift programs and opportunities.

This environment is dynamic and fast-paced. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential to ensure that correct information is conveyed to donors, team members, and colleagues. The Development Coordinator will be knowledgeable about and ensure alignment with university fundraising policies and procedures, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines, and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) ethical principles and standards. Travel, and evening and weekend work may be occasionally required.

Accountabilities:

Fundraising:

  1. Implement face-to-face stewardship and cultivation plans for individuals and businesses to maintain relationships/partnerships and attract increased giving, for low to mid-range donors, working closely with the Development Officer.
  2. Identify potential donors, with the support of the University prospect research team.
  3. Networking at community events and through other channels, with a focus on individuals, corporations, and foundations interested in supporting the College of Law.
  4. Qualify new prospects, both individual and businesses, for the college.
  5. Working with new and existing sources of funding in coordination and direction with the Law Development Officer on an ongoing and project basis.

Donor Relationship Building:

  1. Maintain relationships with existing donors, ensuring their continued engagement and support for the university, with the goal of moving donors through the College of Law pipeline.
  2. Networking at community events and through other channels, with a focus on individuals, corporations, and foundations interested in supporting the College of Law.
  3. Engage donors in conversations about how their support can enable a meaningful impact on our programs and initiatives.
  4. Ensure that relationships with donors, prospective donors, and volunteers are documented in our CRM database to facilitate further relationship building across all areas of the University.

Donor Stewardship:

  1. Managing donor thank you and stewardship processes for the college.
  2. Work closely with and under the direction of the Law Development Officer to create a sustainable stewardship plan and communications with support from central UR Stewardship team to ensure effective collaboration of college processes.
  3. Implementation of annual stewardship and process for college specific student awards.
  4. Ensure donor funds are managed appropriately, and communicate the impact of donations, ensuring transparency and accountability. This includes creating and maintaining donor reports to track progress and communicate the impact of donations.
  5. Support in planning and implementing donor events.

University Knowledge:

  1. Develop a deep understanding of the College of Law’s mission, programs, and strategic priorities to effectively communicate and align donor interests.
  2. Participate in University Relations and Development training, college and university meetings, team planning, and other activities that contribute to achieving college and university-wide goals in development, communications, and alumni relations.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

  1. A minimum of three years directly related experience, preferably at a post-secondary institution. Demonstrated expertise in student recruitment, enrolment management, marketing and/or management is essential.
  2. Strong sales and negotiation skills with a track record of closing deals.

Skills:

  1. Strong decision making, problem solving, and research skills.
  2. High degree of motivation and superior work ethic; Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team.
  3. Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  4. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet multiple and competing priorities.
  5. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and donor management software is an asset.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0
Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $52,050.00 - 81,328.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
