Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 65,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

About this Role
Shelter Movers is hiring a Design and Social Media Specialist to create compelling visual content across a variety of mediums for internal and external audiences. Reporting to the Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist, the Design and Social Media Specialist will collaborate closely with the other functions to ensure seamless Marketing and Communications activities across the organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing high-quality visuals and assets for social media, blogs, webpages, newsletters, training materials, and more, as well as social media management.
This role requires an eye for detail and a strong ability to follow the brand’s vision, as well as a readiness to collaborate creatively. The ideal candidate demonstrates a talent for layout, experience in adapting to non-creative priorities in design execution, and the ability to manage multiple design projects with varying deadlines.

Responsibilities
- Graphic Design & Asset Creation for materials that align with the Shelter Movers’ brand identity, including but not limited to:
- Social media content, local and national
- Flyers
- Newsletters/Email marketing
- Webpages
- Brand Advertisements
- Marketing Campaigns
- Fulfill design requests from other functions (Operations, Volunteer Services, HR, Fund Development, etc) including but not limited to:
- Fundraising Campaigns
- Brochures
- Volunteer Recruitment Campaigns
- Sponsor Packages
- Training Materials
- Take initiative to propose creative design solutions for various projects
- Ensure all design projects are completed on time and within budget
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date archive of all design assets
- Daily Social Media Management of national social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc)
- Scheduling, direct publishing, responding to social inboxes, monitoring mentions, and community engagement
- Support Community Partners on social media (e.g. commenting/sharing of content).
- Support the development of monthly content calendars including creating original content and curating content from chapters and partners
- Monitor, analyze, and report on digital content performance on a monthly and ad hoc basis, by channel
- Identify and propose innovative ideas to communicate and engage on social media
- Share insights, best practices, and trends to support all Marketing and Communications projects
- Assist the MarComm team with campaign research, planning, and execution
- Maintain a database of organizations relevant to the Gender-based Violence (GBV) sector which Shelter Movers will engage with in the digital space
- Develop and deliver presentations and participate in meetings and workshops
- Liaise with external agencies, consultants, and vendors as needed
- Manage assets to ensure photos, graphics, documents, etc. are up to date and easily accessible
Skills & Qualifications
- University degree in Graphic Design or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 3 years of graphic design experience with a strong portfolio that demonstrates design skills and experience working on a variety of projects
- Non-profit experience is an asset
- Candidates should have a strong understanding of software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.), Canva, Google Workspace, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Hootsuite. Experience with CanadaHelps is also highly desirable
- Candidates should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to communicate design concepts, provide feedback and navigate editing collaborations, and manage multiple design projects simultaneously
- French is an asset
- Candidates should have a strong sense of creativity and be able to develop innovative and engaging design solutions that support Shelter Movers’ goals and objectives
- Candidates should have strong attention to detail and be able to produce high-quality designs that adhere to brand standards and guidelines, maintaining a brand voice that is supportive, approachable, trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, client-centered, 2SLGBTIQA+ inclusive, and accurate in all areas of communication
- Candidates should be able to manage their time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines
- A long-term interest in the Gender-based Violence sector is preferred
- Demonstrated experience creating content for social media platforms such as X, Facebook, and Instagram
- Prepared and excited to bring new ideas for content and procedures
- Innovation and creativity are highly valued in this position, as well as the ability to work in a virtual space and recommend alternatives to traditional styles of marketing
- Strong organizational skills and reliable work habits
- Strong understanding of current and emerging social media trends and the relevance of these to the media and stakeholders
- Experience using Meta Business Suite to publish content and engage audiences on social media platforms
- Ability to analyze data, insights, and trends and adjust course, as needed
- The ability to prioritize tasks and shift priorities, as necessary
Role Details:
- Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
- Hours: 35 hours/week (Flexible Schedule)
- Salary Range: $50,000-$65,000
- Location: Remote
- Hours of work: The nature of a remote organization with team members across the country requires flexibility to attend daytime and some evening meetings while meeting project deadlines. While we strive to provide scheduling predictability, the successful candidate will be willing to embrace some flexibility within their working schedule.
