Design Assistant, Women's Swim & Lifestyle

Reporting directly to our Designers, the Design Assistant will work closely with the Design and Development team to contribute to the design, fit, comfort, and quality of our swimwear and lifestyle apparel programs. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring our brand vision to life. In this role, you will get to work with a small, brilliant team on one of the most desirable, fast growing DTC brands out there today!

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating mood boards, color palettes, and concept sketches for swimwear, activewear and lifestyle collections.
  • Support in the development of technical drawings and specifications for all product categories.
  • Assist in sourcing materials and trims for swimwear production, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support in the creation of tech packs and specification sheets for manufacturing.
  • Assist in the communication and coordination with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the timely development and production of all product categories.
  • Maintain organized records of design development, including sketches, samples, and production files.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and line sheets for internal and external meetings.
  • Support in maintaining fit standards throughout the fitting process from initial proto through pre-production samples.
  • Report on prototype and sample progress to meet development and product creation deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Quality Control (QC) teams during the sample concept stage to meet construction standards and testing requirements.
  • Participate in fit sessions with live models to assess fit, drape, and comfort of garments, making necessary adjustments to patterns and samples.
  • Support the design team in various administrative tasks and projects as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Engineering, Textile Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in the apparel industry, with exposure to fit and pattern making. New graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft office.
  • Experience in technical swim and technical/active apparel is advantageous.
  • Ability to work from pattern blocks or sketches.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of garment construction, fit principles, and sizing standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Passion for innovation, creativity, and continuous learning.
Location: Victoria BC, Hybrid: 4 days in office/1 day remote per week.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 CAD
