Job description

MATRIX is a national company providing camps, logistics and aviation management services to a diverse range of clients in the resource and service sectors. We are currently seeking a driven and knowledgeable Desalination Water Plant Operator to join our team.

In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of B2 Gold's Back River project, powered desalination plant. The lead operator will oversee local operations and is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and operating powered desalination units.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Undertake reverse osmosis plant maintenance and operation including CIP.
  • Track and order consumables, parts, supplies and tools as needed to keep plants operating 24/7.
  • Read flow meters, gauges and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content and chlorine.
  • Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water.
  • Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctions and to make sure plant systems are operating normally.
  • Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content.
  • Analyze test results and instrument readings and adjust plant equipment and systems as needed.
  • Provide verbal or written instructions for process control changes to waterworks system to ensure water produced meets standardized quality requirements.
  • Do security checks in plant and on grounds.
  • Respond to customer complaints on water quality problems.
  • Complete and maintain plant logs and reports.
  • May perform minor maintenance or help skilled tradespersons with installation and repair of plant machinery.
  • May measure, mix and transport chemicals to maintain feed stocks.
  • May be asked to help with other tasks not in the job description.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years working in a construction field/camp position.
  • Certified Journeyman Plumber (Red Seal)
  • Gasfitter "B" ticket
  • Proven track record in operating and maintaining water treatment and/or desalination systems, O&G or in other connected fields.
  • Proven team leader.
  • Experience with pumps, motor, rotating equipment, sensors.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience running RO projection and data normalization programs a plus.
  • Commitment, empathy, creativity and rigor.
  • Assets: marine/ocean, cleantech and/or instrumentation experience, MOC certification, WHIMIS.

12 hour days, on a 3 in 3 week out rotation. Paid Travel, including paid travel days. Pay Rate - $500-$600/day Dependant upon certification and experience.
