Job description

The City of Dryden, located on Wabigoon Lake, in the heart of Northwestern Ontario, is enveloped by the beauty of tranquil lakes, stunning views, and the boreal forest. Dryden offers the perfect blend of opportunities to raise a family, launch a business or enjoy retirement. The city has grown the conveniences of an urban centre without losing its rural, neighbourly charm.

Dryden is a community in motion, known for its abundant outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and hiking but also for its first-class fully equipped recreation complex. There is something for every sport and outdoor enthusiast in Dryden, including a waterfront golf course, beaches, canoeing, cross-country skiing, easily accessible hunting in the Boreal Forest, and fishing in local pristine lakes.

The City is now seeking a public sector financial manager to serve as:

Deputy Treasurer

As Deputy Treasurer, you will be responsible for statutory duties required of the Deputy Treasurer under the Municipal Act, 2001 and, at the discretion of the CAO, assume the duties of Treasurer in their absence. You will provide administrative and supervisory support concerning all financial services functions, specifically for account receivable collection, accounts payable, taxation and utility billing and reporting. Your responsibilities will include preparing financial reports/analysis/statistics, maintaining capital asset ledgers, and coordinating and preparing submissions to government agencies for subsidy claims relating to operational and capital programs. You will ensure compliance with the Public Sector Accounting Guidelines and, where concerns of non-compliance with these guidelines or with corporate policies arise, investigate and recommend corrective action.

Hallmarks of success will be predicated on your ability to achieve results by supporting the City’s vision, creating strategy, mobilizing your team, upholding integrity and respect, collaborating with partners and stakeholders, promoting innovation, and guiding change.

Ideal preparation includes:

  1. An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. Experience in a municipal or public sector setting is preferred.
  3. Designation, or working towards attainment, as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is an asset.
  4. Working knowledge of local government functions and responsibilities, municipal finance, investment and debt management, budgeting and forecasting, provincial and federal funding programs, property taxation, auditing principles and practices, account receivable/payable, long-range planning, procurement procedures, capital asset accounting, and general ledger administration.

If you have high ethical standards of conduct and exemplary people skills with a solution-oriented focus, we would like to hear from you.
