Job description

Deputy General Counsel – Employment, Labor & Contracts

Location : Remote

Global Law Firm in Formation: Legal Frontier Innovators

Commitment : Minimum 20 hrs / week

Jurisdiction Preference: Canada, U.S., Japan, Ireland, or UAE (Dubai)

Reports To: General Counsel

Anime Universe is recruiting top legal minds to help build our internal legal architecture—before we form our future law firm. This is a rare opportunity for a senior lawyer with a strategic mindset to help shape the legal foundation of a global entertainment-tech company from the ground up.

This is not a job. It’s a stake.

This is a rare entrepreneurial opportunity—a chance to create something legendary from the ground up, and we want you to be part of it. We require a minimum of 20 hours per week, firmly and clearly. If that’s not realistic for you, we completely understand—but this role isn’t the right fit at this time.

This is a role for doers, builders, creatives, thinkers, problem solvers, engineers, and visionaries—for those who don’t just want a seat at the table, but want to help design it.

Let us be absolutely clear.

We are building everything from the ground up. No systems exist yet. No templates. No third parties. No dependencies. We invent. We imagine. We create. The tools, the frameworks, the blueprints, the house, the language, the laws—it all starts here. With us. Together.

If you want in, this is the contract.

You will need to think for yourself. You will need to solve what hasn’t been solved. There is no instruction manual—we are the ones writing it. This is a calling for those who are ready to build. For true entrepreneurs. For creators of what doesn’t yet exist.

And if that speaks to you—step forward. The work begins.

Overview

Anime Universe is recruiting multiple Deputy General Counsels to support our rapidly expanding global operations. Each hire will be a jurisdiction-specific legal leader, focused on Employment, Labor, and Contracts law. We are seeking candidates licensed and deeply experienced in Canada, the U.S., Cayman Islands, Ireland, Japan, or Dubai.

You’ll shape the legal structures governing how our people are hired, supported, protected, and empowered. From offer letters and equity agreements to global workforce policies and compliance, your work will protect the creative heart of Anime Universe.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and oversee employment law frameworks tailored to your jurisdiction.
  • Draft and refine contracts, equity agreements, NDAs, and employment agreements.
  • Advise leadership and the legal team on labor laws, compensation structures, and workplace compliance.
  • Establish remote workforce models that balance flexibility, legality, and fairness.
  • Align legal practices with Anime Universe’s equity-focused compensation structures.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Counsel and cross-functional leadership on legal strategy.
  • Partner with HR and Operations teams to scale hiring safely and strategically.

What We’re Looking For

  • Licensed to practice law in Canada, the U.S., Ireland, Cayman Islands, Japan, or Dubai.
  • 7+ years of legal experience focused on employment, labor, and contracts law.
  • Expertise managing cross-border employment practices and remote-first organizations.
  • Fluency in both compliance and organizational culture—you understand law and people.
  • Experience in startup, creative, tech, or multinational environments strongly preferred.
  • Proactive, independent thinker who builds solutions, not just advice.

Compensation

At Legal Frontier Innovators, partners are not salaried employees—they are legal entrepreneurs. Compensation is earned through:

1. Equity Ownership

Partners receive equity that grows in value as the firm scales through innovation, cases, licensing deals, and strategic legal IP products.

2. Origination Value

Partners are rewarded for:

  • Clients they bring in
  • Strategic deals they close
  • IP systems they build
  • Policy frameworks they author. This is how equity is activated, protected, and amplified.

3. Revenue-Linked Upside

  • As revenue grows—via licensing, legal ops, and platform growth—cash compensation is unlocked according to milestones. Until then, you are compensated in what you create.

At Anime Universe, we’re not just offering a job—we’re offering a place where work is meaningful, people are valued, and creativity thrives every day. Together, we’ll build a future where culture and talent define the next chapter in entertainment.
