Job description

The Company is in search of a Dean for its Faculty of Law, with a focus on the integration of Aboriginal and Indigenous law, natural resources and environmental law, and sole/small town practice. The successful candidate will be a well-established scholar with a strong academic reputation, a record of excellence in law teaching and scholarship, and a background in academic administrative leadership. The Dean will be responsible for providing visionary strategic direction, academic planning leadership, and administrative oversight of the Faculty, ensuring academic quality and integrity, and fostering a supportive and collegial culture. Collaboration with internal and external partners, particularly within the regional and national community, and a dedication to social justice, diversity, and inclusion are essential.

The ideal candidate for the Dean position at the company will have graduate qualifications in law, a commitment to the legal profession, and experience in developing sustainable relationships with diverse communities. The role requires excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with a particular emphasis on connecting with Indigenous communities. The Dean will work closely with the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and will be accountable for all academic, administrative, and operational activities of the Faculty. A background in one of the Faculty's mandated areas of law is preferred, and lived experience as an Indigenous person with strong ties to Indigenous nations and knowledges is considered a significant asset. The Dean will also be expected to promote the Faculty's mission and achievements, and to engage in outreach and fundraising activities.
