Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Job Description:
To implement and configure network & IT equipment, troubleshoot and analyze communication networks for communication-based train control (CBTC) systems that meet customer, system and industry standards. To manage and lead one or several concurrent deliveries of the communication network design with a matrix organization, being responsible for the overall work package delivery. To support implementation, troubleshooting and resolution of data network communication systems with travel on site expected up to 50% of the time.

Key Accountabilities:

Technical

1. Analyze a communication network design from various perspectives, such as reliability, security, scalability, maintainability, deployment and more.
2. Based on a design, create communication network configurations including process documentation, which includes wired network, wireless network and IT components.
3. Prepare deployment packages for remote sites and deploy accordingly through guidance and training of site teams where necessary.
4. Verify and validate a communication network design (e.g. via testing, analysis, etc.).
5. Deploy solutions in the lab and in the field, including supporting testing and commissioning activities.
6. Troubleshoot and investigate various complex network issues in-house and on site.
7. Interface and build strong working relationships with Software, Hardware and IVVQ groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issues.
8. Create and maintain technical documentation and strict configuration control of a communication network deployment.
9. Develop tools and utilities that assist in various stages of the communication network design and delivery, such as testing tools, deployment automation tools.
10. Support and develop technical interfaces to other groups within the company.
11. Prepare and execute design reviews and discussions with internal and external parties.

Non-Technical

1. Assume a project lead role, maintaining full control and responsibility over delivery of the communication network work package within a project.
2. Prepare and assess labor and equipment estimates for new functions or activities.
3. Plan deployment and troubleshooting activities in order to meet project milestones.
4. Prepare and deliver regular status reports for internal and external stakeholders.
5. Manage technical interactions with other groups within the company, site installation, deployment teams and the customer.
6. Optimize work within the project to improve efficiency.

Key Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Network, Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent. Industry certification is a plus.
2. 3 - 5 years of experience in communication network design, site deployment, commissioning and maintenance of networks (wired, wireless, IT).
3. Excellent understanding and knowledge of communication network concepts, principles and design framework:

• Ethernet/IP-based networking (switching/routing protocols)
• Redundancy and high-availability technologies
• RF design, survey and troubleshooting (802.11, LTE, 5G, Fluidmesh)
• Network analysis and troubleshooting.
• Experience in configuration, deployment and maintenance of various IT components.
• Experience with Windows-, Unix-based operating systems, MS SQL Server, Active Directory, etc.
• Good knowledge and experience of security concepts is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Excellent customer service skills.
2. Rail signaling knowledge is a plus.
