The Database administrator provides specialized technical input and support and ensures auditing, configuration standards, security levels and technical support are delivered timely and professionally to promote a sound operating environment.
This position will also involve some data modelling and SQL development work.
You Will:
Perform technical administrative tasks relative to the environments on a daily basis to ensure the databases are accessible and stable via the applications.
Provide assistance and technical support to other staff members/vendors to ensure the design and management of the databases are operational.
Prevent security breaches, intrusions or attacks to the environment by ensuring appropriate measures are in place to allow for auditing, alerts and reporting on a daily basis.
Develop and maintain reports that can be used on a daily/monthly basis for administrating the environments.
Monitor and report to management any performance, capacity or threshold issues that would result in an unstable environment.
Schedule sessions with developers and 2nd level support staff to ensure knowledge transfer and application expertise is provided.
Investigate with vendor support any patches or upgrades that apply permanent fixes to current versions of software/hardware.
Perform risk mitigation steps as it relates to these types of changes to ensure the environments are stable on a scheduled basis.
Operations support
Maintaining critical environments in an “always on-call” function; being responsible for multiple environments that span both transactional and batch/report type database environments.
Advanced troubleshooting skills in client/server environments, detailed root-cause analysis, efficient/effective problem resolution.
Ability to integrate off-the-shelf tools with in-house developed scripts and programs to manage platforms and notify/alarm on-call support in a proactive and timely manner.
