Job Description:

The Day Camp Support Worker is responsible for the following range of duties under the supervision of the Day Camp Program Director:

  1. Work well with children, parents and with other counselors to plan various activities.
  2. Assist with a range of administrative duties.
  3. Give oversight and supervision of children.
  4. Assist with conflict resolution.
  5. Ensure campers learn in a safe, fun, and stimulating environment.
  6. Assist with registration and screening of campers upon arrival.
  7. Maintain, adhere to, and always administer camp rules/policies of the camp program.
  8. Willingness to offer spiritual support to campers, parents, other staff members, and is passionate about sharing the Gospel with all involved in the program.
  9. Participate and lead aspects of camp program.
  10. Demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct.
  11. Provide support and instruction to others.
  12. Assist with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers as required.
  13. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Staff, Corps Officers

External:

  • Camp participants, parents, Community

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to Corps Officer.
  • Direct reports for this position: None

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment is typically at the Church and outside. Must be flexible. It will include indoor and outdoor settings according to program planning with the possibility of going off-site to local parks or playgrounds within walking distance.

Generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:

  • Dealing with angry/upset youth and parents as well as Verbal Abuse
  • May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illness due to:
    • Physical attacks by others
    • Exposure to infectious diseases
    • Moving objects
    • Risk of sport liberated injuries.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Currently enrolled in High School or holds a High School Diploma.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Must have a valid Police Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Must have certificate in First Aid/CPR or willingness to receive training.
  • Willing to take TSA Armatus online training.
  • Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Able to legally work in Canada.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Must be able to join children in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Able to lead, work and organize with volunteers.
  • Supportive knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Excellent communication, conflict, resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.80 to $17.46 with a maximum of $20.95. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
