Database Administrator - Platform Services

Location: Montreal, Quebec

Our client is a global investment management firm. As a technology and data-driven firm, they design and build their own cutting-edge systems, from high performance trading platforms to large scale data analysis and compute farms.

The Platform Applications Specialist Database role will be part of a global systems team responsible for delivering highly available, high-performance, and scalable infrastructure to support trading and research using the DevOps methodology.

As part of this role, you will focus on working collaboratively with internal development, investment, and infrastructure teams to design, deploy, and support cross-platform database solutions such as PostgreSQL, Redis, Clickhouse, and Microsoft SQL.

Your day-to-day activities could consist of installation and configuration, monitoring and alerting improvements and configurations, automation and tool development.

PLEASE NOTE - 4 days in office is required.

Must Have Skills:

1. 5+ years database administration experience required (At least one of: PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, FoundationDb).
2. Experience with high availability, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
3. Knowledge of indexes, triggers, stored procedure development, and optimization.
4. Experience with Linux systems administration.
5. Experience with Python.
6. Basic understanding of source control concepts, best practices, and the software development lifecycle.
7. Full project life cycle ownership: project delivery from initiation to full implementation and deployment.
8. Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related experience.

Nice to Have Skills:

1. Experience with other database platforms such as ClickHouse, FoundationDb, MSSQL, MongoDb, Redis, Neo4j.
2. Experience with configuration management tools (i.e. Chef, Terraform, Ansible).
3. Experience with an observability & monitoring stack such as Prometheus exporters, LogStash, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, and AlertManager.
4. Experience with CI / CD pipelines.
5. Experience working with various cloud providers (AWS and GCP).
6. Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and containers (standalone and Kubernetes).
7. Experience with Windows systems administration.
