This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta, and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility for the remaining 40% of the work week, allowing for critically important learning, collaboration, and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Overview of the role:
The Digital Enablement team aims to unlock the value of data at every level of the enterprise by providing access to trusted, timely data through an optimized technology stack that enables digital transformation and accelerates data-driven decision making.
We are looking for a Data Specialist to join our team reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Products to deliver this vision. The Data Specialist role uses a variety of soft skills, technical skills, and industry knowledge to provide the most efficient and comprehensive support and direction for data product design and development.

Key deliverables / responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and support scalable data solutions and data products.
- Produce detailed designs and document work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping where appropriate.
- Take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical issues, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements.
- Work with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built.
- Coordinate product design and development activities across the product delivery pod.
- Identify appropriate technology and approaches.
- Work with operational partners to ensure the supportability of new features/products and provide timely technical support and fixes to production applications.
- Find ways to improve data products through enhancements and opportunities for automation.
- Understand the overall architecture of data products and technologies supported and identify and troubleshoot challenges.
- Provide definitive and expert advice in their specialist area.
- Actively maintain recognized expert-level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms.
- Oversee the provision of specialist advice by others.
- Consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organizational objectives.
- Support and promote the development and sharing of knowledge within the organization.
- Collaborate with others to ensure advice is appropriate to organizational needs.
- Monitor the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies.
- Provide technical and data expertise leadership, coach, teach, and mentor the Analyst group within the team.
- Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices. Lead workshops, presentations, and training that provide skill and knowledge development for the team.
- Lead reviews of own work and reviews of colleagues' work.
- Work across teams to ensure the supportability of new data products and provide timely support and fixes.
- Engage in meaningful interactions and relationships with users and manage competing priorities.
Experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or related field.
- 10+ years of working experience within an Enterprise environment.
- Deep technical knowledge with 5+ years of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence experience in an agile environment.
- Proficient in collaborating with others to review specifications and using these agreed specifications to design, code, test, and document programs or scripts of medium to high complexity.
- Broad understanding of information security and designing solutions with security controls embedded.
- Expertise in reviewing the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology and efficient use of resources.
- Excellent at working under pressure, managing multiple priorities while delivering on business needs.
- Requires expert problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
- Expertise with Microsoft BI toolset (PBI, Power Automate), including creating and editing Dim tables, Fact tables, and Stored procedures (SQL Server).
- Experience and proficiency with Data dimensional modeling, data analysis, and data mining.
- Experience with Snowflake, WhereScape, Informatica, Azure DataFactory, JIRA, and/or Azure DevOps.
- Experience in designing and delivering cross-functional data solutions.
- Proficiency in leading large-scale data analysis/deep dives/investigations to support business decision-making.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in airline data and familiarity with Sabre and CAE applications.
