The Schwab Asset Management, Sales Analytics team partners with the Sales team to provide close alignment and support to Sales. We are salespeople using data, analytic tools and techniques to drive enhanced sales outcomes. One’s contribution can be seen daily in the effectiveness of the sales team’s outreach, campaigns, and deepening of existing client relationships. We are looking for a highly-motivated, self-driven Data Science Manager to help deliver actionable opportunities, insights, and efficiencies to the Sales Team.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for developing, tuning, and socializing analytical tools & reports with the Sales team and leadership. You will also be developing prospect and client segmentation strategies across Sales channels. This role will help shape the infrastructure and framework of an established and evolving data environment to support machine learning, data modeling and advanced analytics.

The Data Science Manager will structure and analyze unstructured / disparate data to derive insights and prescribe action using advanced statistical methods that explain or predict client behavior to increase prospect and client use of Schwab Asset Management’s suite of funds & separately managed accounts. He/She will cleanse and transform messy, incomplete, and unstructured data on which they will develop advanced analytics & metrics. They will perform a variety of statistical modeling techniques, time series regression, segmentation, opportunity scoring, predictive modeling, econometric modeling, and marketing mix modeling, to describe or predict patterns in the data. They will collaborate with direct data support functions in operationalizing data access and structuring processes.

Other responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Working directly with Sales to explore new opportunities, and proactively analyze data to surface untapped insights to drive incremental sales and client engagement.
  • Work independently or collaboratively throughout the complete analytics project lifecycle including data extraction/preparation, analysis, activation, and presentation of results.
  • Approach analytical problems with an appropriate blend of statistical/mathematical rigor with practical business intuition. Approaching analyses in multiple ways to evaluate methods and compare results.
  • Supporting and/or driving the development of tools and infrastructure to scale operations, increase efficiencies, and improve quality of results.
  • Work with engineers to evangelize data best practices and implement analytic solutions.
  • Partner with technical and non-technical colleagues across the business to leverage their support and drive adoption of analytics recommendations.

Our Sales colleagues place great emphasis on our ability to translate statistical and mathematical results in a way that tells a clear story and guides them in actionable opportunities. One must be able to convey complex technical solutions into business terms so they can engage in the process and believe in the outcomes.

  • Advanced analytic degree with graduate work performing data analysis using SQL, Alteryx, R, and/or Python.
  • Industry knowledge of ETF’s, MF’s, CIT’s, MMF’s, & Managed Investing offers.
  • Prior sales experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of how analytics support outcomes, including being able to successfully articulate the linkage between business decisions, business objectives, and analytical approaches & findings.
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability to solve problems, and convey the analytical method and output to non-technical partners.
  • Programming experience in multiple languages and environments (SQL, R, Alteryx, Python).
  • Ability to work with large transactional databases across multiple platforms.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to successfully build long-term relationships with colleagues and business partners.
