Job Summary

A Brief Overview
Are you interested in contributing to Queen's University's mission to enhance the value of its data assets? Join Queen's and help establish the foundational data governance framework for decision support, analytics, and AI utilization. In this newly created role, you will play a crucial part in developing policies and standards for data governance and quality, while promoting collaboration with various departments and faculties to ensure their effective implementation. This position contributes to building a data governance framework including policies, standards, procedures, and best practices, and supports the development of data catalogue and metadata. This position audits, monitors, and evaluates data to ensure compliance. This position leads and supports data governance projects and data quality initiatives. This position also develops, delivers, and maintains training, materials, and documentation for end users.

Job Description

What you will do
• Ensures and maintains the highest standards of data integrity by identifying, correcting, and resolving data quality issues.
• Participates in the development, implementation, and facilitation of data quality processes, metrics, and quality controls, acting as a resource for the organization by leading and supporting data quality initiatives.
• Acts as a project lead and central resource for data governance projects.
• Contributes to building a data governance framework including policies, standards and procedures and best practices.
• Supports development of data catalogue and metadata repository.
• Develops, delivers, and maintains training, materials, and documentation for end users.
• Develops and maintains periodic and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
• Develops and maintains a centralized knowledge repository, updates website to ensure information is accessible and current.
• Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Qualifications

Education
• Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Experience
• More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
• Experience with data governance concepts, techniques, processes, and applications considered an asset.
• Experience with data management including business glossaries, data catalogues, metadata, and principle and reference data management considered an asset.
• Experience with data architecture, higher education data taxonomy, and/or business processes considered an asset.
• Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset.

Licenses and Certifications
• A CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification is considered an asset.
• Dataversity Data Governance Online Training considered an asset.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge and Requirements

• Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or substantial work experience.
• Provide effective consultation and advice on non-straightforward and/or complex issues.
• Interaction with others requires interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and influence.
• Adapt messages to meet the different needs of different audiences.
• Builds relationships, trust and credibility.
• Prioritize and distribute work to deliver objectives on time and to the highest standard.
• Identify in advance when the intended results may not be achieved and develops a plan to address the gaps.
• Actively participate in project team meetings and develop individual and unit project plans.
• Lead procedural or technological change within a unit.
• Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
• Seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.
• Appropriately assesses risks before making a decision.
• Contribute to the creation and evaluation of possible solutions.
• Take action to remove obstacles and address problems before they impact performance and results.
• Apply equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion and Indigenization considerations to decision making and planning.
• Promote a work environment that is free from sexual violence, harassment and discrimination, and the ability to show empathy for those who have experienced trauma.
