SALARY: $62,239 -$75,533

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (This position will be based at St Paul’s Hospital, located at 1081 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC)
ORGANIZATION
The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.
JOB SUMMARY
The Data Analyst is responsible for ongoing analysis of healthcare information, obtained from a variety of sources, including patient care, financial, and demographic data. Involves development and preparation of information products for staff. Requires the ability to analyse healthcare data from conceptualization through presentation of the data. Requires proficiency with analytical tools (incl. SAS, Oracle SQL, Excel), knowledge of data analysis methodology, use of presentation software and strong communication skills. A preliminary understanding of epidemiologic research and a passion for health
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field in Computer Science or Medical Health Information or equivalent qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate coursework in statistics, data analysis, research methods (e.g. epidemiology), Oracle programming
- Five years of experience in data analysis and decision support, including demonstrated proficiency with analytical software
Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with a variety of information systems and data files, including large and complex files: analysing file structure; using and creating file layouts; and transforming raw data into finished products
- Demonstrated experience with SAS and Oracle SQL programming language required
- Demonstrated experience using advanced Excel features and techniques required
- Demonstrated experience in analysis and presentation of data required
- Familiarity with various types and sources of health care information, including financial and patient-level data files
- Ability to self-motivate, with managerial, leadership and project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Ability to multi-task and problem-solve
- Ability to work independently, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and/or health sciences research ideal
- An understanding of epidemiologic research (e.g. study design, bias) is an asset.
DUTIES
- Work with Scientists, Research Coordinators, and Statisticians on a dynamic team to collaborate on research projects
- Develop information products, including datasets, data summaries and documentation, from a variety of data sources
- Design, build and document programming projects for analysing, managing and presenting data
- Provide advice and guidance to research teams regarding data quality, data structure and data analysis
- Give presentations on data analysis topics to team members
- Use and support database applications and analytical tools to evaluate data quality, applications and functions, and to produce output and maintain operation
- Contribute to innovation in product development, including researching new analytical tools, methods and data sources
- Provide data retrieval and database management for cohort and administrative health data studies
- Maintain confidentiality in dealing with all matters
