Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Manager, Reporting & Analytics, the incumbent will be a key member of the IT team, focusing on Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics. The Data Analyst is expected to use a combination of Business and IT skills, ETL and reporting tools, contributing to the design and implementation of solutions that will enable our business to have quick access to information. Knowledge of data processing, data modelling, analytics, data visualization and report building is required.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Business Intelligence, Reporting, and Analytics (60%, up to 100%)
- Provide ongoing support for BI, reporting, and analytics using Power BI as the company's primary global reporting platform
- Support the implementation and roll out of the Operations Data Management and Reporting platform (Connected Mine) which will integrate with existing Mining systems to rapidly deploy data, reduce manual reporting and augment overall decision making.
- Assist with executing on a five-year roadmap to guide Kinross’s evolution to a data-driven company through a data literacy program.
- Support the implementation of the Kinross Cloud Analytics platform (Azure, Databricks, Fabric), addressing requirements technology, systems architecture, data governance, people, and other foundational elements.
- Promote a Self-Service approach for Analytics by leveraging simple-to-use tools as well as enabling and encouraging less-technical users to perform analysis and generate content on their own.
- Ability to work both with analytics subject matter experts and with business stakeholders; skill in understanding and solutioning business challenges, and in translating between the languages of business and analytics.
- Ensure that new initiatives are enabled with effective data reporting.
- Provide level 1-2 support of Business Intelligence applications.
- Continuous improvement of Business Intelligence solutions.
2. Application Development, and Integration Practices (20%)
- Work closely with the Sr. Data Solutions Architect, Lead Developer to execute all activities related to the development, management and support of traditional Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) batch processes, and real time data.
- Ability to perform information management assessments such as integration scoping: produce business requirements for data, identify data sources and deliver data specifications (mapping, rules, transformation, etc.) and accurately estimate the development and implementation effort.
- Analysis of data sources and initial data exploration steps (binning, pivoting, summarizing and finding correlations, for example).
- Question and validate business requirements, ensuring that development and integration work is fit-for-purpose to meet real business needs, and that meaningful change is prioritized over nice-to-have items.
- Act as bridge and translator between business and technical data SMEs, and guide requirements conversations through a structured approach that builds business confidence in the process.
- Ensure that software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes related to data, analytics and integration are properly established and followed.
- Collaborate with others to automate processes and ensure appropriate ongoing access to data.
- Assist the Manager, Data Enablement with cataloguing existing data sources and document the flow and transformation of data from source through data repositories and to end user data marts or applications.
- Assist with implementation and/or reimplementation of tools and technologies to support data & analytics strategy.
4. Data Science (10%)
- Assist in introducing Data Science concepts within the organization and play a central role in all stages of the data science project life cycle, including the identification of suitable data science project opportunities, partnering with business leaders, domain experts, and end-users to gain business understanding, data understanding, and requirements collection.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Business, Engineering, Science, Economics, and/or related field
- 2-4 years of technology design and implementation in one or more of the following areas: Business Intelligence, ETL, Data Warehousing, Reporting and Analytics.
- Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, French or Arabic is considered an asset.
Required Technical Knowledge
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
- Strong knowledge of data lifecycle management concepts.
- Solid understanding of data warehouses, data marts and dimensional data models.
- In-depth knowledge of reporting and analytics tools & techniques, SDLC methodologies & practices.
- Broad experience in data warehouse and business intelligence tools (BI, ETL, Change Data Capture, Slow Changing Dimensions, Data Quality, Cleansing, etc.).
- Experience with ERP Solutions is considered an asset.
- Experience with Database Administration is considered an asset.
Technologies:
Mandatory: Power BI, SQL Server, MS Office 365
Preferred: SSIS, Azure Cloud solutions (Synapse Analytics, Synapse Studio, Data Lake Storage, Databricks) Oracle JD Edwards, Connected Mine, Python.
