Job Title: Senior Data Analyst

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Remote

Seniority on the skill/s required on this requirement: Senior

Estimated Duration: 3 months with possible extension for another 12 months

Work authorization: Any (candidate must be authorized to work in CA)

Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and versatile Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data engineering practices, combined with the analytical skills necessary to derive actionable insights from data. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and architectures, as well as performing detailed data analysis to support business decisions.

Responsibilities:

Services and project deliverables should evolve as the work progresses, in response to emerging user and business needs, as well as design and technical opportunities. However, the following must be delivered (iteratively) over the course of the project:

Data Engineering:

  1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store large volumes of data both on-premises (SSIS etc.) and in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  2. Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and availability for analytical and operational use.
  3. Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement solutions.
  4. Optimize and improve existing data workflows and ETL processes.
  5. Implement data governance and security best practices.
  6. Manage data storage solutions, such as data lakes and data warehouses.
  7. A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
  8. Deploy data solutions in the cloud and with database tools (SQL, NoSQL).

Data Analytics:

  1. Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  2. Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, SaaS VA).
  3. Conduct statistical analysis and modeling to support business strategies.
  4. Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  5. Use SQL and other query languages to extract and manipulate data from various sources.
  6. Create plans and strategies to integrate data models and improve service delivery.
  7. Develop and share service metrics and performance dashboards.
  8. Facilitate the frequent delivery of services and deliverables to ensure the successful creation of the target state while mentoring Agile Teams to grow their analytics fluency.
  9. Support corporate priorities with data-driven evidence using analytics, visualizations, and data modeling.

Requirements:

Must have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or related field of study.
  2. Experience as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  3. Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Storage), or Azure (Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage), with a focus on deploying scalable data solutions and optimizing data pipelines for a range of projects.
  4. Experience with data marts, data warehousing, BI tools, etc.
  5. Experience working with querying data with Microsoft Transact-SQL Server.
  6. Knowledge of ETL processes and tools, with hands-on experience designing and implementing data pipelines for transforming and loading data from multiple sources into data warehouses.

Nice To Have:

  1. Experience integrating DevOps practices into the development workflow using CI/CD best practices.
  2. Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Data Factory, API Management, Talend, etc.
  3. Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as R, Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
  4. Familiarity with IT infrastructure, business direction, strategies, shared service initiatives, and/or applications.
