JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Cyber Security Specialist.

Reporting to the Section Head, Information Systems, this position is responsible for providing leadership and participating as a member of the Cybersecurity team by tracking and investigating security threats and driving remediation strategies, which includes creating reports, authoring playbooks, and maintaining compliance with cybersecurity policies. The successful candidate will be required to keep abreast of up-to-date developments and trends in cybersecurity management information systems, networks, and computer applications.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Versatile role in cyber, involving alert monitoring, investigation, remediation, and on-call responsibilities with potential overtime.
  • Coordinate vulnerability assessments, conduct tabletop exercises, and manage escalated cyber tickets (e.g., access requests, unblocking websites).
  • Stay updated on global cyber threats, including phishing trends and the latest attacks, particularly in the energy sector.
  • Experience using tools such as IBM Qradar, Sentinel, Defender for Cloud, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, CyberArk EPV, and EPM.
  • Experience in configuring CyberArk application connectors and integrating with third-party applications, databases, and systems.
  • Continuous monitoring and optimization of firewall policies, ensuring compliance, risk assessment, and rule hygiene to maintain secure and efficient network access.
  • Managing micro-segmentation policies, monitoring real-time traffic flows, and enforcing zero-trust security controls to prevent lateral movement within the network.
  • Monitoring and enforcing cloud security policies, inspecting web and SaaS traffic for threats, and ensuring data protection through real-time CASB and DLP controls using Purview and Netskope.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-Year University Degree in an appropriate field such as computer science plus 1 year of further concentrated study in cybersecurity programs.
  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience in a similar or related position.
  • Experience with cyber alert monitoring, investigation, remediation, and on-call support, including knowledge of global cyber threats, especially in the energy sector.
  • Proficient in using security tools such as IBM Qradar, Sentinel, Defender for Cloud, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, and CyberArk EPM/EPV.
  • Skilled in configuring CyberArk application connectors, integrating third-party applications, and optimizing firewall policies for risk management and compliance.
  • Expertise in managing micro-segmentation, real-time traffic monitoring, zero-trust security, and enforcing cloud security policies with CASB and DLP controls using Purview and Netskope.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.
