What you’ll be doing

As a Cyber Security Researcher within the Cyber Security Innovation team of Cybersecurity, Third Party and Resilience (CTPR), you will join a cross-functional team with a passion for innovation. You will help to solve new and challenging problems to deliver on our mission: to promote cutting edge cyber security capability at CIBC. You will also collaborate with security researchers within academia and industry as well as within internal teams on strategic research and development, proof of concepts, reports and recommendations.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Research and development: Research emerging trends, identify opportunities and lead strategic initiatives for research and development and proof-of-concepts. Perform analysis and recommendations to contribute to security strategies, roadmaps, reports and business cases.

  • Program leadership and reporting: Execute and provide program leadership and support for the Innovation Champions Network Program, and other programs as required. Manage centralized reporting of program objectives to ensure their effectiveness, efficiency and compliance with management objectives. Identify opportunities, develop project proposals and deliver on initiatives to further enhance Cyber Security Innovation capabilities to make innovation accessible to Cyber Security teams.

  • Education and Awareness: Develop periodic and ad-hoc threat and external incident assessments, communications and presentations for a wide range of audiences including advisory and operations teams, risk managers and executive management. Communicate to Cyber Security and other Senior Management the analysis and interpretation, as well as providing solutions for existing and future risks and vulnerabilities in order to provide measurement regarding the security posture of CIBC.

  • Industry trends identification and benchmarking: Stay abreast of adversary motivations, tactics and goals; monitor geopolitical situation as it relates to security threats. Consider CIBC business activities and strategy to enable the practical application of intelligence to improve information security for the business. Perform benchmarking of relevant CIBC Security Services capabilities against those of other organizations through participation in external information sharing forums. Serve as a contributor and representative for working groups and meetings with other financial institutions, partner organizations and other entities.

  • Strategy and roadmap: Provide relevant innovation perspectives towards security service roadmaps and capabilities, processes, service health and implementation strategies for Cyber Operations and Delivery portfolio including Identity and Access Management, Cryptography, Threat Detection & Response, Cloud Security, Application & Data Security including Data Loss Prevention, and Network & Endpoint Services.

  • Internal and external relationship management: Work with cross-functional stakeholders to monitor the internal and external threat environment and contribute to adjustments of Security Services plans as required. Collaborate with vendors, industry and academic partners, develop and maintain relationships, and guide towards successful delivery that is aligned with CIBC's strategy and goals.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 5-10 years’ experience in Cyber Security ideally within a large enterprise, with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Identity and Access Management, Cryptography, Incident Response, Security Operations, Security Monitoring, Security Analytics, SIEM, Centralized Log Management, Vulnerability Management, Penetration Testing, Denial of Service protection, Malware mitigation, Data leakage protection, Advanced Firewall protection, Next Generation Intrusion Prevention. It’s an asset if you have a CISSP, CCSP, GIAC or equivalent professional certifications.

  • You have a PhD in Cybersecurity or closely related discipline. (Please include links to any recent publications in your resume.) It’s a strong asset if you can demonstrate expertise in programming, automation, data analytics and AI/ML capabilities. Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, PowerPoint, MS Excel are desirable.
