Job description

Key Responsibilities

  1. Customs Documentation:
    1. Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations, shipping documents, and other related paperwork.
    2. Ensure accuracy of commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin, and other trade documents.
    3. Maintain records of all customs-related transactions and filings.
  2. Regulatory Compliance:
    1. Monitor and interpret customs regulations, trade laws, and other relevant international trade policies.
    2. Ensure compliance with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), or other applicable customs authorities.
    3. Maintain the Company’s compliance with the C-TPAT program.
    4. Stay up-to-date with tariff codes, Harmonized System (HS) classifications, and duties/tax changes.
  3. Risk Management:
    1. Identify and mitigate risks related to customs compliance, including potential fines or delays.
    2. Collaborate with legal and logistics teams to address customs-related issues.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    1. Work closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely clearance of shipments.
    2. Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on customs-related requirements and procedures.
  5. Audits and Reporting:
    1. Maintain and update compliance-related records for audits and inspections.
    2. Conduct periodic reviews of customs documentation and processes to identify areas for improvement.
  6. Training and Support:
    1. Educate internal teams about customs requirements, such as import/export laws and documentation procedures.
    2. Develop and implement compliance policies and best practices.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in international business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience

  1. 2-5 years of experience in customs compliance, trade compliance, or related roles.
  2. Familiarity with customs regulations (e.g., CTPAT, ITAR, EAR) and tariff classification systems.

Skills

  1. Strong knowledge of customs documentation processes and regulatory requirements.
  2. Proficiency with customs software and systems (e.g., ACE, ACI, SAP).
  3. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Certifications (Preferred)

  1. Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
  2. Licensed Customs Broker (if applicable).

Required Knowledge & Key Competencies

  1. Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
  2. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  3. Knowledge of international trade agreements (e.g., USMCA/CUSMA, WTO rules).
